Director Chris Martinez was not the original director of the “Kimmy Dora†film which stars his best friend Eugene Domingo. It was Bb. Joyce Bernal who directed the first “Kimmy Dora†installment. Said movie won for Eugene a Best Actress trophy from the Enpress Golden Screen Awards. For this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival, Direk Chris is hoping that Uge will get the Best Actress plum.
“Eugene outdid herself in this movie,†remarked the award-winning writer-director of “Kimmy Dora: Ang Kiyemeng Prequel†who added that Uge’s performance was simply remarkable. “I would say that this is Uge’s best performance among the three Kimmy Dora movies that she had done.†Uge not only made people laugh. She also indulged in quite a number of action scenes.
For his part, Direk Chris said that being a part of the 2013 MMFF is already a cause for celebration. “We were all glad to be part of the festival. Well, yes there is pressure because we are up against a number of films but we also feel happy because the festival is a showcase of the best Filipino films. At least, we are up against Pinoy films, not Hollywood blockbusters. We can say that everything is on equal footing.â€
Direk Chris said doing a prequel is not a bad idea. It is a way of introducing Kimmy Dora to a new audience. “If you missed the first two Kimmy Dora movies, you won’t get lost because you will know the back story. The audience will also get to know the two characters that Uge is playing in the film. We made sure that it is going to be an entertaining ride for the audience when they get to watch the prequel on the big screen.â€
He knows that he is up against strong opposition from other comedies in the festival but with his topnotch cast, good special effects, solid script and inspired direction, plus superb production values, “Kimmy Dora: Ang Kiyemeng Prequel†is a winner.
Also starring Sam Milby, Joel Torre, Angel Aquino and Ariel Ureta, the movie is now drawing crowds in theaters nationwide.
We had the chance to watch the film on a special screening last Monday and we predict that Uge is a strong contender for the Best Actress award.

Also said to be a strong contender for the Best Actress award is KC Concepcion, the leading lady of Laguna Governor ER Ejercito in the Chito Roño film “Shoot-to-Kill Boy Golden†from Scenema Concepts.
We have yet to watch the film but if we were to believe those who had the chance to watch it at the premiere held on Monday, KC made a good account of herself acting-wise. She managed to impress those who came to watch the film, including her mom Sharon Cuneta and stepdad, former senator Francis Pangilinan.
KC was fresh from her victory as Best Supporting Actress from the PMPC Star Awards for TV for her work in a TV series for ABS-CBN.
