CEBU, Philippines - After reaping positive reviews for the first two editions of her 2013 concert – generally citing her newfound maturity, sophistication and a more ‘personal’ set list– Pinoy pop royalty Sarah Geronimo is finally bringing the ‘Perfect 10’ experience tonight in Cebu, at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino in Lahug.
First staged last Nov. 15 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum to celebrate the 25-year-old singer-actress’ fairytale of a decade, ‘Perfect 10’ garnered a Nov. 30 repeat at the Mall of Asia Arena after tickets to the first one reportedly sold out as early as August!
This is a night her legions of Cebuano Popsters have long anticipated, and the Star in a Million 2003 grand champion vows, as always, not to disappoint.
Your ‘Perfect 10’ publicity photos noticeably feature a seductive look and sexier clothes than usual. What does this signify, and was this something you were comfortable in?
I just wanted to grow as an artist and part of that is not being afraid to explore, try out new things, try out new looks and just really evolve as a person and as a young woman.
Do you make it a point to watch a video of your first show for self-assessment and see what you can improve on for the repeat shows?
Sometimes, I watch my performances on Youtube. Every chance to perform onstage is a brand new chance to do better.
How is ‘Perfect 10’ different from your previous hit concerts ‘Recordbreaker’ and ‘24/SG’?
‘Perfect 10’ is a celebration of my ten years in the industry so it’s like taking the audience back to the beginning of my journey as an artist. It’s a celebration of my music, my dreams, and my humanity.
What was the best concert you’ve ever been to, and why was it the best for you?
Celine Dion’s “A New Day†in Las Vegas. I’ve always been a fan of Celine and seeing her perform live in concert was definitely an amazing experience.
You’ve mentioned in interviews how you’ve realized singing is not about ‘belting out’ all the time or mimicking the likes of Celine Dion, and that more than the technical aspects, it is about expressing and singing from the heart. Was this something you realized yourself, or someone pointed it out to you?
It was something I realized myself. Singing is not about impressimg your audience with your big voice, high range or vocal riffs. It’s taking your audience to the journey of the song and being able to convey its message sincerely and effectively.
Like millions of Filipinos and people around the world, I’m sure you also watched on television images of the devastating and heart-wrenching effects of Yolanda. What went through your head while seeing these?
It was heartbreaking to see how typhoon Yolanda devastated this nation. I even dreamt of the images on television the night before my concert. Realizations? Life is fleeting. Live with a grateful heart and a courageous spirit. There’s no disaster we cannot survive if we live in unity and love as brothers and sisters.
How does your family plan to celebrate Christmas this year?
The usual family reunion is always the best!
After 10 years in the business, what else would you like to achieve?
I want to be able to write and produce my own songs or maybe produce for other upcoming artists. - Special thanks to Michelle Torres (FREEMAN)
