Cebu music festival: Korean artists impressed with Cebuano bands
CEBU, Philippines - Performers from Korea grace the 3rd Edition of the Cebu Music Festival, which started yesterday at the Ayala Terraces, Cebu.
Cebu City Tourism Commission (CCTC) executive director Cinbeth Orellano told The Freeman that the Korean Culture of the Arts also performed alongside with the local bands of Cebu performing for the two-day music fest.
Orellano added that the Korean performers were here to observe as they were impressed by the local bands of Cebu.
Interestingly, Orellano revealed that next year, in the fourth edition of the annual music festival, there will be a cultural exchange that will happen as local bands from Cebu will go to Korea to perform and the local bands from Korea will also be coming here in Cebu to perform before Cebuano audience.
Orellano said the annual music festival started with the Tambulero sa Sugbo, showcasing the different percussion bands in Cebu and the second edition, on the other hand, was dubbed as Tukar Sugbo, which was held last year.
“The Cebu City Tourism Commission (CCTC) organized this annual music festival in order to help boost the image of our local bands in Cebu. This is a showcase and a showdown of Cebuano bands, which is open to the public for free,†Orellano said.
The local bands featured yesterday were Prodigio, Abyan Ensemble, Sugbuwanon, Night Rhythms, Pandora, Fly High Michelle, Lorapalooza, Powerspoonz, Shuffled, Blacksmoke, DGT, Cebu Music Factory and Cuarenta.
Performing tonight, on the other hand, are Front Line, Behind the Scriptures, Flirt, Bruce Conte, Six Counts of Murder, Zubu, Overdrive, Stellarskin, Serendipity, Eve’s garden, Counterpoise Minora and Shepherd’s Plaid.
Next weekend, another set of local bands will be performing as a continuation of the 3rd Cebu Music Festival at the SM Northwing of SM City Cebu. (FREEMAN)
