CEBU, Philippines - Subscribers of wireless leader Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) can now vote for their favorite song among the 14 finalists of the Philippine Popular Music Festival, a songwriting competition recognizing the contributions of Pinoy songwriters and composers to the music industry.
The song with the highest number of votes by July 12 will be given the People’s Choice Award – which comes with a P200,000 cash prize – during awarding ceremonies on July 14 at the Philippine International Convention Center.
A board of judges will separately determine the festival’s top three winners who will receive 1 million pesos, P500,000, and P250,000, respectively.
To vote for their favorite song, Smart subscribers should text the code that corresponds to their choice to 2929. (For example, P1) Each vote costs one peso. Clips of the songs can be found at http://philpop.com.ph/finalist/
Launched last February, the music festival organized by the PhilPop Music Foundation collected a record-breaking 3,000 song entries from Filipino music makers here and abroad. The entry list was trimmed down to 14 through a judging process supervised by the foundation’s executive director Ryan Cayabyab.
