Inmates find hope and self-respect in prison school

- The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - Some New Bilibid Prison inmates can now be assured that they will be able to support themselves upon release after undergoing the institution’s educational program that aims to rehabilitate them through education and skills training and development.

In “Patrol ng Pilipino,” ABS-CBN news reporter Ryan Chua gets inside the doors of Bilibid in Muntinlupa City to report on the inmates who have found hope and a sense of self-respect in the new opportunities provided to them by the prison school.

Ryan will feature the heartwarming stories of the program’s incoming and graduating students, including Archie, who recently finished his degree with high honors. Archie now teaches his fellow inmates livelihood education while waiting for his parole, a job that gives him allowance and reduces his jail sentence.

Meanwhile, Zyann Ambrosio will uncover the story of “Janine” (real name withheld), a 12-year-old girl who now faces pregnancy after being raped. How can families and the community help young victims through the trauma of sexual assault?

Know the stories behind the news tonight (June 26) in “Patrol ng Pilipino” after “Bandila” on ABS-CBN. (FREEMAN)
