The gathering Hip hop still exists in Cebu
CEBU, Philippines - Few people may know this, but the hip hop music in Cebu is coming out once again to give everyone a piece of what Hip Hop is really all about.
The Gathering event brought together all hip hop enthusiasts in Cebu last November 26, 2011 at The Rainforest Park. A community of local artists together with 6000 Goonz Entertainment made it possible, along with sponsors Rainforest Park , Sound balloon audio, Monster Beats by Dr. Dre, 6G Swagger / Tease by Hi-C and Cannon.
The event was created to launch all new hip hop artists in Cebu and to inform everyone that these groups exist and so does hip hop. All 19 groups performed during the event along with DJs and graffitti artists who showed their support to the industry.
"Lahi ra kaayo sa una," 6000 Goonz co-founder, Kris Villarino, said when asked about the difference with the hip hop artist and events before and now. “Lisod sa una kay grupo-grupo.” He said that back then, hip hop was about the group that you represent. When they had shows, people were divided into groups and at times these groups become rivals. He was happy to see that hip hop evolved and so did the artists. “They are (now) more about the music. Kahibaw sila sa ilang gisudlan,” he added.
Performers during the event had their own way of presenting their love for hip hop. There were amazing groups of beat boxers and break dancers who astounded the crowd. Different styles of rap and songs hyped the night as the DJs spin each track. “More on reality na unlike sa una,” Michael Brent Obaob of GnB proudly described the songs created by his fellow artists.
Dice Rosaroso, 6000 Goonz founder, advised the performing artists during the pre-event briefing that they are not to compare themselves with other artists. He told them to let their skills be the judge of how good they really are and how far it could bring them. “Let your skills pay your bills,” he added.
Another highlight of the event was when Dice announced that they will create and launch a compilation album of all local hip hop artist of Cebu . “This is like a kick off for a compilation that we will be doing. We'll be launching it on January next year so watch out for that one”. The said album is going to be released not only in Cebu, but nationwide and as one of the project endorsers for BEATS by Dr. Dre, Dice said that they are to submit the album to Dr. Dre so as to let the latter hear the music and mainly to let the international music scene know that such talents exist in the Philippines, particularly in Cebu.
