GMA Network emerged as the biggest winner in the 2011 Golden Screen TV Awards, scooping a total of 22 trophies, getting most of the awards in the news department. But ABS-CBN took the spotlight in the drama categories which is its strongest turf, getting top acting honors from Coco Martin, Helen Gamboa, and Ms. Lorna Tolentino.
It was a battle between the Kapuso and Kapamilya channels but the Kapatid Network, TV5, did not go home empty handed as it picked several awards as well.
It was also a night for TV newcomers Ritz Azul (winner of Outstanding Breakthrough Actress for Mga Nagbabagang Bulaklak) and Alden Richards (winner of Outstanding Breakthrough Actor for Alakdana).
No one recognized Bembol Roco when he arrived as he was in drag, reliving his character Anya from the TV series "Beauty Queen" for which he was nominated as Best Supporting Actor.
Dennis Trillo, John Lapus and Gabby Eigenmann were all first time winners. Gabby was very emotional as it was his very first acting nomination and acting award ever. "Now I can say that I am an Eigenmann," says Gabby who was teary eyed as he accepted his award.
Gina Alajar who won Outstanding Supporting Actress in Drama for "Amaya" said she prayed for her award after she learned she was nominated. She also shared her award with all of her co-stars in "Amaya," including its lead actress Marian Rivera.
