CEBU, Philippines - After almost a month of staying in London to compete in the 2011 Miss World Pageant, the newly-crowned Miss World 1st Princess Gwendoline Ruais returned to the Philippines on November 18.
Last October 19, Gwen left the country as Miss World Philippines with the hope of bringing home the elusive crown. It has been 16 years since Miss Philippines last placed in the Miss World Pageant and more than 3 decades since the country’s candidate was crowned 1st Princess. Now that Gwen has made a mark in the international scene, the Philippines is back to being a front runner in the Miss World Pageant.
Upon her arrival, the 1st Princess of Miss World 2011 was welcomed by her Miss World Philippines family headed by Ms. Cory Quirino together with the local pageant’s main presenter, SM Development Corporation (SMDC), represented by Senior AVP for Marketing, Mr. Rudy Villar. GMA-7 Entertainment TV executives Ms. Bang U. Arespacochaga, Senior Program Manager, and Ms. Ali Dedicatoria, Program Manager, also greet Gwen in her homecoming.
Home at last, the successful beauty queen is set to share her blessings and live out Miss World’s advocacy, Beauty With A Purpose, in the country. Gwen is tying up with the GMA Kapuso Foundation for fundraisers to help the needy and the less fortunate - her way of thanking the Filipinos for the support they have given her.
Last November 21, Gwen welcomed the pound-for-pound king, Cong. Manny Pacquiao, as he came home after his recent boxing victory over Mexican fighter Juan Manuel Marquez.
Tuesday (November 22), Gwen paraded along EDSA with 2011 Miss World Philippines 1st Princess Helen Nicolette Henson, 2nd Princess Martha Chloe McCulley, 3rd Princess Ma. Paula Bianca Paz, and 4th Princess Jaysel Arrozal. The motorcade’s starting point was at the GMA Network Center, to the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay via Ayala Avenue.
