Nora Aunor quits smoking
Superstar Nora Aunor was a big winner at the 3rd PMPC Star Awards for Music held Sunday at the Lee Irwin Theater of the Ateneo de Manila University in Quezon City. Aside from being conferred the Lifetime Achievement Award, she was also named one of the ICONs of OPM and was even named Female Star of the Night.
In her acceptance speech, the superstar said: "Sa lahat po ng mga fans na narito, hindi ko po akalain na ganito ang [magiging] pakiramdam ko; [parang] first time kong tumanggap ng award," said the superstar. Then she thanked the members of the PMPC. "Ramdam na ramdam ko po ang [kasiyahan] na ibinigay sa aking karangalan ng PMPC," said Nora.
The actress also thanked her fans who had always been with her through thick and thin, since she started her career, through her highs and lows, never wavering in their support and love.
"Sa mga patuloy na nagmamahal at umiintindi, mahal ko po kayong lahat. Hindi man ako makakanta sa kasalukuyan dahil sa may nangyari po sa boses ko, pero sa isang taon po, pagbabalik kong muli, asahan n'yo po, magkakaroon po tayo ng isang concert.. Magandang gabi at maraming salamat po."
After the awards night, Nora stayed on in the venue with her fans. Playing in the background was the theme song of the movie "El Presidente" which was the last song that she recorded before she lost her voice. But the actress is hopeful that after another surgery that she’s supposed to undergo next year, she will have her voice back and she promised her fans she’s going to have a concert.
Nora says she misses singing so much that she can’t help but cry whenever she sees singers performing. But she hopes that she will recover her voice and be able to sing again.
The superstar also disclosed that she’s quitting smoking and she’s doing so for health reasons. "Now I know the importance of not smoking plus this is my own way of supporting the 'no smoking' campaign of the Philippine Medical Association which criticized my photo in a magazine which showed me holding a cigarette," said Nora.
