Beat My Band at The Beat

-

MANILA, Philippines - The fire is burning as the ‘Beat My Band’ competition kicked off its weekly contest.

Drop Decay, a pop punk band, won over Yan Stomp, an alternative rock band, in last Friday’s competition.

Drop Decay is composed of students from University of San Carlos (USC) and Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC).

“We practiced 5 days straight for this contest,” Tony Alfonso, vocalist of Drop Decay, said.

The contest is intended to bring talents together, thus, it accepts any genre.

Dan Legarde, owner of The Beat and organizer of the contest, said ‘Beat My Band’ is an opportunity for amateurs to play their beat and be televised in RCTV.

“It’s a great thing because it gives them the right exposure,” he said.

The competition provides a very exciting show for the audience and the competing bands get advice on their music.

Among the judges were Andrei Gimena, who played different types of genres since 1996; John Tugot, a diverse musician since 1994; and Tet Legarde, Executive Producer of ‘Beat My Band’.

In choosing the winner, judges consider the dimensions in compositions, good melody, artistry, and most importantly, the feel of the music.

The event will be holding a few more weeks to complete the seven contestants for the 8th and final week of ‘Beat My Band’. The winner gets P10,000, 2nd placer gets P5,000, and 3rd placer gets P3,000.

Listen and enjoy the beat of the bands and find out which of the young musicians will jump-start their career with a prize.
