Heart ready to break her silence

- Ricky L. Calderon -

We heard that Heart Evangelista wants to explain  her side regarding the controversy involving her and Marian Rivera which happened while they were doing Temptation Island.

Heart is finally breaking her silence and is ready to tell all but the big question is why only now? The movie had been released and had earned tons of money. Isn’t it too late for Heart to spill the beans? Doing so would only revive the issue and rekindle the word war that erupted between her and Marian. But according to someone close to Heart, they (she and Marian) were prevailed upon by GMA Films to keep silent about the issue at the height of the movie promo so as not to create further controversy.

If you ask us, it’s too late for Heart to speak up and say her piece on the issue. Lumang balita na ito. She missed her chance to defend herself when she decided to fly to Brazil with her boyfriend, Daniel Matsunaga. The issue is now old news. Would people still care to listen to what she has to say?

Easily the crowd favorite in the ongoing Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival being held in various venues at the Cultural Center of the Philippines and at the Greenbelt Cinema 3, is the Eugene Domingo starrer, the comedy film directed by Marlon Rivera.

We missed the screening last Saturday because we got caught in traffic. We arrived at the CCP thirty minutes after the movie had started. But according to the ushers who were manning the entrance, it was full house and they could hear the laughter of the audience even if the theater doors were closed.

According to fellow writers who had the chance to watch the movie last Saturday, the movie was very entertaining and this early they are saying that Eugene should win the best actress award come the Cinemalaya on Sunday at the CCP main Theater.

We are scheduled to watch "Ang Babae sa Septic Tank" last night on its gala premiere as we are really excited to watch this film that Eugene is very proud of.

But we don’t mind watching a film for the second time especially if we liked it. We watched "Ligo Na U, Lapit Na Me" last Sunday upon the invitation of talent manager Noel Ferrer whose alaga Edgar Allan Guzman is playing the male lead in the movie.

We watched it again on Monday upon the invitation of Edgar Allan who watched the film with his family. The crowd enjoyed the movie directed by Erick Salud from the script of Jerry Gracio. It was based on a novel of the same title written by Eros Atalia (whom we also got to meet). We even asked him to sign a copy of the novel that was being sold at the CCP.

We wonder how Edgar Allan’s family reacted to his many love scenes with his leading lady Mercedes Cabral.

In fairness, we watched the Joel Lamangan film "Patikul" again and we liked it better this time because Direk Joel re-edited the film and it became fast paced.

Other film entries we were able to watch were "Amok" (directed by Lawrence Fajardo and Liberacion, the movie of Japanese Jacky Woo, directed by Adolf Alix Jr.

We also watched the gala premiere of "Isda" at the CCP Main Theater on Monday and we were in awe by the good acting of Cherry Pie Picache. She was simply amazing as a woman who gave birth to a fish.

It is exciting to watch all the film entries at the Cinemalaya if we only have enough time to watch all the movies.

Mariz Ricketts, the better half of Optical Media Board Chairman Ronnie Ricketts, admits getting nervous every time her husband goes out to raid the lair of DVD pirates.

Even if she knows her husband is careful in doing his job and doesn’t go out alone but with his team, Mariz can’t help but feel wary for her husband’s safety.

Ronnie was recipient of an award given by PARI (Philippine Association of Record Industries), Anti-Film Piracy Council and the association of video distributors for his efforts in eradicating film and record piracy. Ronnie received the award last week, at the Manila City Hall, together with Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim who also received a similar Plaque of Recognition for their fight against piracy.

For her part, Mariz is likewise active in her showbiz career. She’s in the cast of the TV5 series titled Ang Utol kong Hoodlum, starring JC de Vera and Jasmine Curtis Smith. She plays the mother of Jasmine.
