Tejero celebrates Panagtagbo Festival

- Debbie Dixie C. Duraliza -

CEBU, Philippines - It was the last thing you'd expect to see in the middle of a dusty road: A grand festival, the likes of Sinulog. Dancing contingents grouped into five clusters competed in Barangay Tejero's 1st Panagtagbo Festival last June 4.

Ritual dance and street dancing competitions were presented by the five clusters of the said barangay.

Banat Hugyaw editor Ryan Mark and DyRC 648kHz anchor Malou Inocando Tabar hosted the event.

Cluster 4-Tribu Panaghiusa emerged as champion, with cluster 5-Jhller Dance Company (1st runner-up), cluster 2-Tribu Pasigin (2nd runner-up), cluster 3-Tribu Mahugyawon (3rd runner-up) and cluster 1-Tribu Umzrra (4th runner-up). Cluster 4 also bagged best in costume, best in street dancing, and best in choreography.

Ria Mae Amen of Cluster 2 was adjudged as the first Panagtagbo Festival Queen

Barangay councilman Garry Lao, chairman of the committee on entertainment and overall festival chairman, is thankful for the support of the city government. He said, "The activity will greatly help the development of tourism in our barangay and our place will be known as a keeper of culture since the Kasadya sa Tejero was started in the 1960's. " The Panagtagbo Festival is just one part of the annual Kasadya sa Tejero.
