Unmasking the 'real' Justin Bieber

SHOWBIZ DRIBBLE - Salve V. Asis -

Does Justin Bieber have a dark side?

Depends on how you weigh the events during the young Canadian phenom’s concert in Manila last week.

Social networking sites crackled with stories about Justin’s supposed show of brattiness.

Some of his fans were huffing over the fact that the singer was a no-show at the after-concert party. His staff attributed his absence to his not feeling so well. There were indeed reports that Justin was under the weather even while he was performing on stage. That would also explain why the show was shortened by at least half hour.

I’m sure many fans who paid as much as P8,000 for a ticket to watch their idol felt shortchanged.

Then there’s the scene at NAIA caught on video in which an airport employee who wanted Justin to autograph his CD was brusquely swept aside by the pop star’s entourage.

So is Justin Bieber a brat? Or are his fans just too sensitive? I believe celebrities also need some space in which they can enjoy a private moment away from the limelight and their fans.

And you can’t deny that there are some fans who are too pushy and act as if they have exclusive access to their idols.

Still, Hollywood is rife with celebs with bloated egos who have honed rudeness into a fine art. I do hope Justin Bieber is not one of them.

Boxing icon Manny Pacquiao is scheduled to arrive today in time for the 62nd birthday of Mommy Dionisia.

The big bash will be held in GenSan, and according to reports, Pacman bankrolled the grand event for a cool million.

Pacmom has been busy the last few days rehearsing her dance number, no doubt the high point of the celebration.

Speaking of Manny, he can now consider socialite Paris Hilton as a certified fan. Paris watched the Pacquiao-Mosley bout at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. She and sis Nicky even attended the post-fight get-together and sat next to Jinkee.

“I love Pacquiao. He’s an incredible fighter. It was amazing to watch him tonight,” Paris gushed.

It was there that she revealed that she was coming to Manila to open what she said was the “Paris Hilton Beach Club.”

“I’m really excited... I’m coming out there in a few months... I’m doing a new exciting project in there,” she said.

Paris Hilton in Manila! That would be an event I would not miss.

Looks like Star Cinema’s ‘In the Name of Love’ is bound for box-office success.

The film is said to have raked in P15 million on opening day last week. Star Cinema is so confident ‘In the Name of Love’ is going to be blockbuster that it booked 100 theaters for its showing.

The film stars Aga Muhlach, Angel Locsin and Jake Cuenca. Olivia Lamasan directs.

Aga admits it’s the “hardest film” he’s ever made. “I accepted this project not knowing it would be physically and emotionally draining.”

Perhaps Aga was referring to the steamy love scenes he shot with Angel. Or the fact that part of the movie was shot in Japan.

The project took one year to finish because of several delays. It is, however, worth the wait. Aga and Angel gave superb performances as lovers who persevered against all odds.

I don’t see why they’re making such a big fuss about the elimination process adopted by the organizers of Miss Philippines-Earth.

Under the pageant’s new rules, 10 contestants will be weeded out every week, leaving just 10 of the 50 beauties to battle it out for the crown.

Apparently some contestants didn’t like the prospect of being eliminated early in the pageant and were questioning the sytem. But as Lorraine Schuck, executive vice-president of Carousel Productions, Inc., explains it, “This makes the competition more exciting and definitely something to look forward to. The candidates will have to put in their best effort from now on.”
