CEBU, Philippines - The Royal Wedding was a world-wide event with the media following every move leading up to the big day, the married couple having captured the world’s hearts and have generated interest far outside of Great Britain.
Although the United States doesn’t have an official monarchy, many Hollywood celebrities and public figures could be considered the nation’s royalty. Which celebrity weddings have garnered huge public interest and media coverage?
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes: Tom announced his love for the much younger Katie by jumping on Oprah’s couch while being interviewed by the television powerhouse. Although many guessed the oddly paired duo wouldn’t last, the two have stayed together and become a top Hollywood couple. After the birth of their beautiful daughter, Suri, “TomKat” (the couple’s media given moniker) were married in Italy at a regal castle. The lavish star-studded affair included 300 bottles of wine, a five-tiered cake, and fireworks.
Mark Mezvinsky and Chelsea Clinton: Daughter of former President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hilary Rodham Clinton, Chelsea grew up in front of the world in the White House. The only child dealt with family scandal during her father’s time in Washington D.C. and overbearing media often commenting on her looks. The first daughter grew into a poised and successful young woman, and her marriage attracted the attention of the nation. The happy couple were married in Astor Courts.
Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston: Brad and Jen were Hollywood’s golden couple. The hugely popular pair were married in Malibu in 2000. The wedding grounds were decorated as a Zen garden with lanterns and floating lotus flowers. Fans were very invested in the marriage and although it ended in divorce many years ago, many are still upset. Pitt is now the proud father of six with Angelina Jolie (and if those two ever tie the knot, the media would go nuts!)
John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette: The name probably most associated with the idea of “American Royalty” is Kennedy. The family has lived in the political public eye and also generated a vast amount of interest in their personal lives. John F. Kennedy Jr., was once named one of People’s “Sexiest Men Alive,” while Carolyn Bessette, was named one of People’s “Most Intriguing.” The two were the perfect picture of a “royal” couple. The duo’s private short Catholic ceremony took place on Cumberland Island. Their fairytale lives unfortunately ended in tragedy, a word also synonymous with the Kennedy name. The beautiful pair and Carolyn’s older sister were killed in a plane crash while on their way to a family wedding. (FREEMAN)
