11 Most Fascinating People of 2010

Premiere movie cable channel Cinema One bravely presents its list of 11 Most Interesting and Fascinating People of 2010 in the channel's special program entitled Eleven hosted by no less than the King of Talk, Boy Abunda. Carefully strained from a bevy of names who made a mark in the field they’re known for, these 11 luminaries who are an exciting mix of celebrities, sportsmen, media, politicians and people in the arts and culture are distinct achievers. They set new standards of being an achiever while inspiring others.

One of them who made it to the list is President Noynoy Aquino, the country’s first bachelor President whose image sent off messages of a new hope. Manny Pacquiao is another standout. The People’s Champ did not earn this perfect sobriquet for nothing. He knocked out opponent after opponent in international rings. Charice Pempengco made it to the list. Her determination and perseverance lead to her global success. Maria Venus Raj has to be in this list. Hers is a real Cinderella story. From her humble beginnings to controversies of her nationality that stripped her off of her crown to rightfully reclaiming it and then finally representing the country in the Ms. Universe pageant makes her the ‘major major’modern woman that she is. John Lloyd Cruz, Vice President Jojo Binay, Gretchen Barretto, the Azkals, Maria Ressa and Inno Sotto are the others who deservingly complete the list. "Eleven" presents exclusive engaging interviews and features on some of these very fascinating Filipino personalities and celebrities.

A lot of people have this impression that the support that Ogie Alcasid is getting as president of OPM or Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit is due to the fact that he's close to President Noynoy Aquino after having campaigned for him last May.

"Actually the support that I am getting is not coming from Malacañang but from Congress," Ogie explained at the recent presscon of KLIK (Kulturang Lahi Inuuna Ko) which is a joint partnership of OPM with Taguig Representative Freddie Tinga which aims to revive the interest of the Filipino youth in OPM music through education.

Called KLIK or Kulturang Lahi Inuuna Ko, the program will push forth original Pilipino music among students via reforms in the basic education curriculum that will emphasize Filipino heritage, culture and music.

"It is my duty as OPM president to help and promote the development of Philippine contemporary music and also to make the younger generation appreciate the love for our own music and our culture," said Ogie.

"We have to return to basics, and start with a grassroots movement if we are to revive the moribund Philippine music business. J-POP and K-POP have become big exports for Japan and Korea, respectively. Sadly, here in the Philippines, our local music industry has taken a nose dive in terms of popularity and support," Cong. Tinga said.

To get KLIK off the ground, congressmen who have thrown their support behind the project will each sponsor a music teacher and a music class at the 4th year high school level in a public school in their respective districts.

The curriculum for the project will be developed by multi-awarded composer and musical arranger Maestro Ryan Cayabyab. The class would include subjects like Music Appreciation, Music History, Notation, Songwriting, among others with special emphasis on OPM.
