UV Chorale wins 2nd place in MBC National Choir Tilt
CEBU, Philippines - The University of the Visayas Chorale placed second overall in the open category of the recently concluded Manila Broadcasting Company’s National Choir Competition held at the Aliw Theater in Pasay City. Named champion was the St. Louis University in Baguio, which incidentally was the runner-up to UVC in the same competition last year.
Even as the Cebuano student choir failed to defend their 2009 MBC Champion title, UVC manager Nena Gullas expressed elation at their second place finish, saying they weren’t expecting a victory already as majority of the present members of the choir are new and first-timers to a choral competition, and weren’t part of the UVC that won last year’s MBC, the Cultural Center of the Philippines National Choral Competition, and the Tomohon International Choir Competition in Indonesia. The UVC, conducted by Anna Tabita Piquero, edged out Koro Ilustrado (also conducted by Piquero), and St. Scholastica’s College in Manila, which claimed third and fourth spots, respectively. Other finalists in the open category were the University of the San Agustin Troubadours, Ateneo de Davao, Ramon Magsaysay-Manila Youth Choir, and the FEU Chorale.
