Robin Padilla Disowned By Cariño Clan in Baguio

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – Action star Robin Padilla, who recently got the ire of original Ibaloi tribe clans and families after a “flop” on his tribal wedding with actress Mariel Rodriguez, has been disowned by his supposed clan.

“Neither Robin Padilla is an Ibaloi nor his mother Eva Cariño are related to the Cariños of Baguio,” said Joaquin Cariño, great grandson of Mateo Cariño, the great old man of Baguio City.

“Eva Cariño is not an Ibaloi, is not related to the Cariños of Baguio, and it therefore follows that Robin Padilla is not an Ibaloi and is not related to the Cariños of Baguio,” he added.

It was reported recently that Padilla tied the knot with Rodriguez in an Igorot ceremony, with a photo of the couple dressed in traditional Igorot garments shown in television reports.

Meanwhile, Padilla has finally confirmed rumors in a TV interview that he and Rodriguez, after a whirlwind courtship that started last May on the set of the now defunct “Wowowee”, actually got married, but that this was done in India, particularly in a mosque in Taj Majal, a month ago.

“Ang buong katotohanan po, mga mahal kong kababayan, ako po ay maligayang-maligaya na ibabalita sa inyo na isang buwan na po kaming kasal ni Mariel Rodriguez. Ang kasal po na ‘yan ay nangyari sa India, sa Taj Mahal, August 19 po kami kinasal, at ‘yan po ang katotohanan. ‘Yan po ang pawang na katotohanan at pawang katotohanan,” Padilla said in ANC’s The World Tonight Tuesday.

Rodriguez, for her part, said “I’m the happiest person in the world!” on being married to Padilla, adding that a Catholic ceremony will soon follow. (With a report from Philippine Star News Service)
