Sarah Geronimo poised to be the Next Concert Queen
CEBU, Philippines - As the country’s Pop Princess, reigning Box Office Queen and one of showbiz's top endorsers, we may think she’d like to reward herself every now and then with a pampering spree or a luxurious trip for her constant hard work. But Sarah Geronimo’s modest wish, if only time permits, is to go camping and spend time with friends and siblings.
While she may have the means at her disposal to do the things she wants, alas, with fame comes the painful price of not being able to do normal stuff that people her age do.
“Gusto ko sana magbakasyon. Yung maka-bonding ko yung friends ko sa high school at mga kapatid ko at mag-camping,” Sarah told entertainment reporters who waited for her arrival at the Mactan Cebu International Airport. With her PAL flight landing at 10:55 am yesterday, Sarah was simply clad in a printed cream polo shirt, dark denim skinnies, flats and brown shades while toting her purple bag and an organizer.
Sarah has of late expressed sentiments of wanting to be in control and more hands-on when it comes to her career. As an adult, she wants to make certain decisions on her own. She no longer wants to be the girl confined to replying “po and opo”. Is she slowly gaining a voice among her numerous decision-makers?
“Yes. Mas involved na po ako. I talk to my manager if may concerns ako. Kapag may hesitations ako about a project, vino-voice out ko na,” she professed.
Sarah's parents are known to be strict, with both mom and dad having a say in their daughter's personal and professional affairs. She has previously confessed in interviews that there are times when she feels stifled both by her parents' over-protectiveness and by the limitations brought by her celebrity status. But Sarah always adds in the end how grateful she is to have folks who guide her towards the right path.
Sarah is in town for tonight’s "Record Breaker: Philippine Tour 2010" concert at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino after finishing a successful US and Canada tour. She will perform with Fil-Brit singer Charlie Green, Erik Santos, Jimmy Marquez and the G-Force dancers.
Asked what we can expect from tonight’s event, the certified crowd drawer said: “Syempre po in every concert naman po na ginagawa natin, binibigay po natin yung ating best so hopefully po mag-enjoy ang mga tao. Sana maibigan po nila. Yun po yung ginawa namin sa Araneta Coliseum last year, yung Record Breaker.”
Last year, Sarah proved that she can be the next Concert Queen as her concert “Record Breaker” jampacked the Araneta Coliseum. She has for four consecutive years filled the entire Big Dome with her major concerts.
After Cebu, she will bring the tour to Limketkai Atrium in Cagayan de Oro on August 6; at Island Cove, Cavite on August 20 and the Arellano Coliseum in Cabanatuan on August 27. The other shows are on September 3 at Ormoc; September 17 at Lipa, Batangas; September 13 at Zamboanga City; October 1 in Bataan and October 8 in Bacolod.
Along with her song-and-dance performances, the glittering outfits she wears in her shows are also much-awaited. Ever since she has worked with Manila and Cebu’s top designers, her girl-next-door image had slowly transformed into a chic sophisticate. She revealed to having at least four costume changes tonight, with some her ensembles created by renowned designers Rajo Laurel and Rhett Eala.
The singer-actress just turned 22 years old last July 25th and to celebrate, she shared of just having a quiet dinner with her family at home.
Filipino-Italian model-actor Matteo Guidicelli has previously admitted that he admires Sarah. How does she feel about boys like the "Agua Bendita" actor openly declaring their admiration for her?
"Haha! No comment na lang. Sabi ko nga, wala namang masamang mag-admire kasi ako rin naman hinahangaan ko din si Matteo dahil gwapo at magaling na car racer. So wala naman sigurong masama dun," was her clipped reply.
