Al Gore and Loren, Under a Tree

CHANNEL SURFING - Althea Lauren Ricardo -

“LeGoreda.” No, that’s not a title of a fantasy film. But, yes, it does have some fantasy in it, and it all started in cyberspace, when Tweeter @ageofbrillig, uh, tweeted, “Dear God, I want Al Gore and Loren Legarda to fall in love. Will entertain millions with few negative consequences. Please make it happen.” It was only a matter of time before the idea caught on.

Actually, I first saw a longer version of this on Facebook, from the same contact, who happens to be a great writer and a lawyer: “Dear God, I want newly-single Al Gore and Loren Legarda to fall in love when he visits Manila next week. This may instill greater environmental consciousness among Filipinos and their public policy leaders. This will entertain millions with few negative consequences. Pls make it happen. Thanks.”

And who wouldn’t entertain the thought, even if one would eventually conclude it to be unpalatable? Gore and Legarda have a lot of things in common. They were previously married, they both lost in their respective electoral bids, and they’re both vocal environmentalists. I’ve always found Gore cute and, well, Legarda is undoubtedly beautiful.

As Tweeter @heyessa commented, “I can almost imagine it: Al Gore meets Loren Legarda on stage during Manila talk. Audience will collectively go, ‘Yihee.’ Seeds planted.”

This is not, of course, to downplay the importance of Gore’s message to Manila.

Which was what again? Oh, to save the environment, now na. We have been experiencing freaky weather; we have just gone through El Niño; we have renewable resources to tap, like geothermal energy (Sen. Bongbong Marcos must have been so thrilled to have the windmills singled out); and that political will is needed for us to act on saving the environment.

Meanwhile, ABS-CBN reports that Gore was still sporting his wedding ring when he arrived, despite a recent formal announcement that he and his wife Tipper had separated after 40 years of marriage. And that after his talk, he attended a dinner in his honor and was seated at the same table as Legarda, with Han Sy between them.

Yihee.

Okay, guys. Let’s focus on Planet Earth now.

More feedback on “On Willie”

I really enjoyed watching Luis sa Wowowee. - Judith de Leon, [email protected]

I think Luis and Edu should have a show, even if it’s not Wowowee! Thanks for the comment, Judith!
