Cebupop now accepting entries

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Arts Foundation Inc. (CAFI), chaired by Rep. Eduardo R. Gullas, announces that its “love project” is now accepting entries to the 31st Cebu Popular Music Festival slated on January 14, 2011. Official entry forms and contest rules are now available at the UV Alumni Center.

It can be noted that the last contest winner went to an original Cebuano composition penned by Jun Aliño Cabillar entitled, “Tim-os Kong Gugma” and interpreted by Ms. Girlie Lapinid-Laspiñas who also won the Best Interpreter award. Last year’s staging of the 30th Cebupop was a tribute presentation of past winners and the Cebu comeback of Ms. Sharon Magdayao now known locally and internationally as Vina Morales.

“The steering committee is expecting an influx of fresh entries this time,” project director Philogene Florita said. “Having a one year respite, many composers had already prepared their entries last year. In fact, many of them had been canned and ready for submission. Still others have called up the office to inform us that they are now in the recording stage,” Florita added.

Deadline for submission of entries is on July 31, 2010 and screening of entries will immediately follow thereafter. “We are encouraging all Cebupop original Cebuano songwriting enthusiasts to secure their entry forms at the earliest possible time to avoid the rush and to submit their composition soonest for song entry coding,” Florita said.
