THE FREEMAN's 'Night at the Movies' a blockbuster

- by NathalieTomada -

Guess who came at The Freeman’s “Night at the Movies”?

The Freeman staff came dressed in their favorite big-screen characters at the movie-themed Christmas party held in Waterfront Cebu City Hotel (Lahug), which was graced by big bosses Sir Jose “Dodong” Gullas, TF chairman, and Sir Miguel Belmonte, president and CEO of the Star Group of Publications.

Ninja assassins from Banat News ambling through the hallways of Waterfront had Korean tourists stopping in their tracks to gawk at them and take pictures.

To make a pitch for the coming attraction Wapakman, “Manny Pacquiao” arrived with “Krista Ranillo.”

Darna pulled off a live transformation, swallowing what seemed like a stone before ripping off her black outer outfit to reveal her trademark red two-piece. Even contest judge Rico Lucena of ABS-CBN Central Visayas had to concede it was a stunt deserving of the big win (Darna, for the info of the clueless few, is enjoying a TV remake in the Kapuso network).

The rest of the cast included the Runaway Bride, Geishas, Che Guevarra, Charlie’s Angels, and a smorgasbord of superheroes and supervillains.

There were also slightly confused characters like the Spiderman-Darth Maul hybrid-cum-host of the program, plus other unidentified walking objects that must have been characters in straight-to-DVD fare.

(The late) Ang Panday stole some show for simply being too late, charging into the room in his fabled sword and signature sideburns as the program was winding down and the winners already declared. As they say for these kind of tricks: “Too late the hero.”

These were just some of the fun and funny highlights of TF’s “Night at the Movies”-themed party, and obviously there were more, as seen through the photos on this page.
