Joey Ayala headlines "Tingog sa Katawhan" concert
CEBU, Philippines - Celebrated folk-rock artist Joey Ayala and his band Ang Bagong Lumad will headline a unique concert event happening this Saturday, September 26 at the Cebu Coliseum, dubbed as “Tingog sa Katawhan… Pasalamat Concert.”
The concert is going to be an en-masse celebration of music and peaceful empowerment, an interactive concert particularly designed towards evoking an experience of communal spirit, harmony, and belongingness as well as nurturing a personal “peace spot” that one can return to time and again.
It also shares a sense of rising personal and communal creative power to support education for all and a sense of socio-environmental interconnectedness and interdependence.
And most importantly, the concert promises an experience of indigenous cultural elements coupled with an awareness of peace-related issues affecting marginalized indigenous people’s communities and the entire population.
Sharing the stage with Ayala is Ang Bagong Lumad, which is composed of highly esteemed artists in the Philippine music scene, namely; Onie Badiang (formerly of Yano), legendary reggae drummer Chong Tengasantos, Tapatii, Malu Latute and Grace Bugayong.
Joey Ayala and Ang Bagong Lauya is behind such nationalistic songs—Magkaugnay, Inang Laya, Batas Militar, Karaniwang Tao, etcetera. Together with his band Bagong Lumad, the musician from Davao revolutionized the Filipino alternative music by making use of indigenous elements from lyrics to musical instruments such as the Maranao kulintang, and the T’boli lute hegalong.
Ticket prices for this Saturday’s concert are pegged at P70.00 with matinee and gala performances at 2pm and 6pm, respectively.
This event is one of the highlights of the Cebu City + 10 Interfaith Sector’s Interfaith and Peace Month Celebration.
“Tingog sa Katawhan… Pasalamat Concert” is organized by the Cebu City+10 Inter faith Sector and is supported by the City of Cebu, University of Cebu, Good Citizenship Movement/EDSA People Power Commission, Department of Education, Commission on Higher Education, Globe, Coalition for Better Education, E-Net Philippines, Alive, Paglaum 2020, Inc., Paglaum Group shows and rides.
