Play. Savor. Relive again the music of your passionate generation at Treff with DJ Bong Suzara’s compilation of around 10,000 songs showcasing the best of three decades past.
As a child of the 80s like me, get transported to that time you first went gaga over Fiction Factory, The Cure, Madonna, Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, The Outfield, and the late Michael Jackson when he went literally off the wall, et cetera.
Step back in time through all 10,500 songs compressed in Suzara’s iPod mixer, which saves him from having to move around with his backpack full to the brim with CDs and other gadgets, and from that standard DJ rig of dual players and mixer.
In just two storage devices, popped on to a docking station, Suzara has dispensed himself entirely from the bulky turntables and CD players, or the traditional DJ gears.
As in-house jam master of Treff, he has to attend immediately to flooding requests most especially from those who chill out at the place in the hope of breaking away from yakking radio DJs or the commercial overload that goes with top-rated music TV programs.
With a device so compact, Suzara is able to deliver crisp, crystal clear nu wave and synthpop music, glam metal and hair rock, or even downtempo depending on the mood of the night and the bulk of requests. Even the aggressively independent punk music of the 80s finds its way to Suzara’s playlist to show punks ain’t dead…really.
Maebelle Varron, marketing communications manager for rooms of the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel & Casino, explained that Rewind @ Treff on Fridays started last July 3 to cater to guests who crave for more of that music from the 70s, the 80s and the 90s. In fact, more guests would want to stomp to dance music.
Actually, Treff is the newest addition to Waterfront’s list of made-over successes. Formerly known as “Treff Oyster Bar”, this fully revamped, all-glass sensation is now the hotel's official bar and lounge. A far cry from its previous all-wood interiors, Treff is now basked in white and glass—chic and ultra modern.
Plus, there’s a 50 percent off on all cocktails, wines, and spirits from 5pm to 9pm.
As for DJ Bong Suzara, he keyed in my favorite “Just Got Lucky” from Joeboxers (thanks much!) which gave me a blast from those Bagets years. And of course, who could say no to Fra Lippo Lippi? Owww, I can still do the corresponding dance steps choreographed by Vicor Dancers. Familiar with Joy Cancio (manager of Sexbomb)? She used to be its lead/star dancer.
Prior to that, the list had “Don’t Dream It’s Over” from Crowded House and songs from the Test of Time album by Little River Band. I’ll try sticking around a bit late (or very late) on August 14 for another Rewind session. In a back-to-back event, a spinning jockey will jam on the 15th too. Says Varron, this event will happen twice-monthly, open to all music buffs sans the entrance fee.
As for me, I’ll order a serving of dancefloor nu wave, the music I grew up with.
