Asia’s Songbird Ms. Regine Velasquez is excited with her forthcoming concert titled “Most Requested” that is happening on August 1 and 8 at the Skydome of SM North Edsa in Quezon City. It’s like a homecoming of sorts for her because the event is produced by Viva Concerts and Events.
This marks Regine’s return to the Viva fold. Viva del Rosario, chief executive officer of Viva Communications, Inc., is very much elated over the fact that the famous songbird is headlining a Viva event.
“Regine is a Viva star,” says Viva’s top honcho. “She started her recording career with us right after she won ‘Ang Bagong Kampeon’ in the 80’s. It was also at Viva where she made her successful movies and where first hosted talent shows like ‘Star for A Night.’ We are happy that she is getting this series of Viva shows off to a big start.”
“Most Requested” is the title of the concert since Regine would be doing songs that are most requested by fans. Her choices are based on the requests she constantly receives from fans during her live performances.
The show will also feature emerging song artist Eva Castillo who Regine rediscovered a few months ago. They were constant rivals when they were kids trying to make it in the music scene via amateur singing contests. Regine proudly recalled that in all the times they competed, she won over Eva only once. This means that the concert goers will also get a big treat watching these birit queens “compete” once more onstage.

Taken from San Francisco Times, this is just one of the many good reviews received by Boy, the latest film of award-winning film director Aureaus Solito. The film would have been shown at the Singapore Film Festival but they had problem with the censors of Singapore. Nevertheless, the film opened to good reviews in other places where it was shown.
Playing the lead roles in the film are two newcomers – The Boy who plays the unnamed Poet is Adam “Aeious” Asin, while the Boy who plays the Macho Dancer is Aries Pena. According to the filmmaker, Boy is his ode to Lino Brocka’s Macho Dancer.
“Boy” will be screened at the Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival on July 24. It is competing for the NETPAC (Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema) Jury Award. For the record, Aureaus has won the NETPAC prize twice – first was for Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros at the Rotterdam Film Festival, and second was for “Tuli” from the Berlin Film Festival.
Also in the film are Madeleine Nicolas (who happened to be in San Francisco when Boy was screened so she was able to attend the event and experience the feeling of the moment) who plays the mother of the poet, and Nonie Buencamino who plays the father of the macho dancer.

The Starstruck Team of Mark Herras, Rainier Castillo and Jana Roxas won the P3.2 million jackpot at stake in the game show “Hole in the Wall.” Their winning moment will be aired today, Wednesday. They were pitted against the Starstroke Team of Mang Enriquez, Gene Padilla at Dang Cruz.
Mark, Rainier and Jana would split the P3.2 million among themselves. Each will get P1.066 million richer.
“Hole in the Wall,” hosted by Michael V and Ogie Alcasid, is one of the top-rating programs of GMA 7.

“MANILA,” directed by prize-winning directors Adolfo Alix Jr. and Raya Martin, will open the 2009 Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival and Competition on July 17, 7:30 p.m. at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (Main Theater).
This will be the film’s Philippine premiere after its successful screenings in the 62nd Festival de Cannes and the 31st Moscow International Film Festival. Actor Piolo Pascual co-produced and stars in this film that pays tribute to great Filipino directors Lino Brocka and Ishmael Bernal.
Manila boasts of a powerful cast—a mix of some of the country’s best actors including Rosanna Roces, Jay Manalo, Alessandra de Rossi, Baron Geisler, Iza Calzado, Angelica Panganiban, Jiro Manio, William Martinez, Anita Linda, Marissa Delgado, Menggie Cobarrubias, John Lapus, Katherine Luna, Aleck Bovick and Jon Avila. The film’ screenplay was written by Ramon Sarmiento and Alix, who opened last year’s Cinemalaya with Adela. Alix’s first film, Donsol, and Kadin were both past Cinemalaya finalists. Raya Martin, whose other film Independencia was also screened in this year’s Cannes Film festival, is also honored as one of the 13 Artists of the CCP.
Star Cinema is releasing the film in selected theaters nationwide on July 22 in selected theaters: SM North Edsa, SM Megamall, SM Mall of Asia, SM Manila, SM Fairview, Robinsons Ermita, Robinsons Galleria, Gateway, Trinoma, Glorietta 4, Sta. Lucia, SM Davao, and SM Cebu.
