Hugh's "Wolverine" ups The X-Men Franchise to Php386.3 Million
CEBU, Philippines - Indestructible as adamantium, “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” clawed in a staggering P42,260,794 million box-office nationwide in its 4-day opening weekend which opened April 30 in 244 theaters.
Action amplified, ‘Wolverine’s” opening accelerated the ‘X-Men’ franchise to P386,335,062 million wherefrom “X-Men” in August 2000 grossed P56.4 million, “X2: X-Men United” in April 2003 grossed P120.5 million and “X-Men: The Last Stand” grossed P163.1 million.
Based on actual Metro Manila figures from its local distributor Warner Bros. (F.E.), 20th Century Fox’s “Wolverine” cut through as industry-wide’s Biggest Opening Day for 2009 so far at P9.24 million. It now stands as the Biggest Opening Weekend for a foreign film at P 35.4 million surpassing “Fast and the Furious 4’s” 4-day opening weekend of P22.2 million.
Droves of audiences flocked to see “Wolverine” on the big screen which resounded in huge box-office receipts wherein Trinoma cinema topped the list as it pulled in a P3.5 million gross in its 4-day weekend release. Succeeding Trinoma’s feat is SM Mall of Asia with P2.2M followed by Greenbelt 3 with P2.03M as the third top cinema. Glorietta 4 cinema came in fourth with P2.09M and Powerplant at fifth with P1.2M.
Other cinemas included in the top 20 which drew in crowds of audiences are Alabang Town Center P1.88M; Eastwood P1.83M; SM Megamall P1.76M; The Block/SM North Edsa P1.59M; Shang Cineplex P1.41M; Theatermall P1.37; Gateway Cineplex P1.31M; Ayala Cebu P1.08; Robinson’s Ermita P1M; Filinvest P894,365; Robinson’s Galleria P886,616; SM Cebu P813,278; SM Baguio P738, 402; Market Market P706,776 and SM Clark P631,554.
“X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE,” unites Wolverine with several other legends of the X-Men universe, in an epic revolution that pits the mutants against powerful forces determined to eliminate them. Hugh Jackman reprises the role that made him a superstar, as the fierce fighting machine who possesses amazing healing powers, adamantium claws, and a primal fury known as berserker rage.
