CEBU, Philippines - The University of the Visayas Chorale will hold its first-ever concert in Manila this April via a back-to-back concert with the University of the East Chorale.
Dubbed as “Ovations,” this back-to-back concert featuring the two award-winning choral groups being conducted by Anna Tabita Piquero will be held on April 24, 2009, 8pm at the Philam Life Theater in UN Avenue, Manila. Piquero, a former Philippine Madrigal Singer, has been the choirmaster of the UV Chorale since June 2006.
“Ovations” will also serve as a belated thanksgiving concert for a successful 2008 for the two choirs. The UV Chorale was the only Filipino performing group tapped to perform during the 2008 staging of the World Youth Day, which drew half-a-million youths from all over the world to Sydney, Australia last year.
The UE Chorale, on the other hand, embarked on a European tour from June 2008 up to the end of August 2008, and garnered various awards from four different international choral competitions held in four European countries.
The concert promises a “showdown” between the two choirs as the best of the best of their songs will be showcased. Sure to be highly-anticipated is also their joint performance. Prior to the concert, the UV Chorale will be at the Philippine Choral Directors Association’s National Masterclass Series in Baguio as a featured choir alongside some selected Manila and Baguio choral groups.
