CEBU, Philippines - The University of the Visayas Chorale is one of the featured choirs at the National Masterclass Series for Choral Conductors by the Philippine Choral Directors Association on April 14-18, 2009. This forms part of the series of regional conventions organized by the PCDA and participated in by choral conductors from the different parts of the Philippines.
The Masterclass and workshop speakers include the best choral mentors and trainors in the country. They are Jonathan Velasco, who is president of PCDA, for conducting and voice training; Thomas Schuele of Musica Mundi/Interkultur for international competitionsl; Robert Delgado for choral arranging; Rebecca Nulud for movement and choreography; Arwin Tan for music technology; and Mark Anthony Carpio and Anna Abeleda-Piquero, who is the UV Chorale's choirmaster, for the conducting laboratory.
Aside from the UV Chorale, the featured choirs are Philippine Male Singers and Ateneo Chamber Singers from Manila as well as some Baguio choral groups.
According to UV Chorale manager, Mrs. Nena Gullas, the UV Chorale will also hold a concert at the St. Louis University in Baguio on April 16 as one of the highlights of the PCDA Masterclass.
