Ex-bold queen Rosanna Roces gets lead role in "Pasang Krus"
From the maker of the highly-acclaimed movies “Ataul For Rent” (Casket For Hire) and “Hilot,” director Neal “Buboy” Tan has another big screen offering—the family drama “Pasang Krus” featuring sexy actress Rosanna Roces in the lead role.
In this new flick, Direk Buboy wants to bring the style of films made famous by the likes of Lolita Rodriguez and Rosa Mia, who is, incidentally the idol of his mother. He was likewise inspired to do such kind of dramatic flick when he saw the family drama “Lucia,” one of the last films of the famed director Lino Brocka.
“I am inspired by movies that talk about the sacrifices of mothers. Parang ibinabalik ko sa dating panahon. You might think it’s an old idea, but I’m giving it a modern touch because the characters of mothers now are different compared to the times of Lolita Rodriguez and Rosa Mia. Besides, I did it as a sort of tribute to my mother.”
Erstwhile bold queen Rosanna was Direk Buboy’s first choice for the role of Herminia, the suffering mother of five kids who had to flee their hometown after her husband was murdered. In the film, Rosanna’s character would lose two of her children while trying to escape. She would then face a ton of hardships while living in the city, but her faith in God would never waver. She would be able to unite her fragmented family.
“The movie really reminds me of the old movies done by Lolita Rodriguez before. When I first read the script, I told myself I wanted to do it. The role suits me and I told Direk Buboy that I am perfect for the role. I wanted to do it. It’s the kind of role that I had been longing for,” said Osang, who even had to shed some unwanted pounds to prepare for the part.
Had Direk Buboy failed to get Osang for the part, he would have tapped Ms. Lorna Tolentino or Maricel Soriano for the role. But he knew he had to go through a wringer to enable him to cast either of the two.
Direk Buboy, nevertheless, was very happy to have done a film with Osang. “I knew what she went through while doing the film. She was inspired by the role and we didn’t encounter any problem with her. We had a good relationship, a good symbiosis, me, Osang and our cameraman that’s why the film came out well.”
So happy was Direk Buboy working with Osang that they are collaborating on their next project titled “Baklas,” a film on human organs for sale. They are co-directing the film.

Rodrigo Nopiz from Las Piñas City, the male contestant in the I-Taktak Mo or Tatakbo portion in Eat Bulaga, won the P1 million jackpot prize the other day. The contestant, who was a former contract worker, hit the jackpot after his last spin in the third roleta.
We know that many of our kababayans and regular watchers of Eat Bulaga as well as its rival program Wowowee are hoping to hit the jackpot and win a fortune by watching the noontime shows that not only offer entertainment but also attractive prizes.
Now that our country and the rest of the world are experiencing the ill effects of the global financial crisis, we can’t blame these people if they dream of hitting the big-time in these game shows. With the government inutile on its promise to alleviate the plight of the unemployed, the hungry and the needy, these contests on TV serve as their only hope, especially during these times, when jobs are scarce and hard to come by.
But of course, there is still no substitute for hard work to make both ends meet and survive during these hard times. But if you can’t find work, how can one, indeed, manage to survive?
