KC steps out from the shadow of megastar mom Sharon

- Ricky L. Calderon -

CEBU, Philippines - The success at the box-office of "When I Met You," featuring KC Concepcion and Richard Gutierrez, has definitely made KC a celebrity in her own right. She's no longer referred to as the Mega Daughter. She has made her own star shine.

At the victory party of "When I Met You" last week, KC was misty-eyed when told about this observation by the movie press.

"Parang I want to cry," she admitted. "Of course, I am very proud of my mother. It's hard to be compared to her but it's a blessing as well. The pressure is great but it means a lot to me that the people in my generation are enjoying the kind of work that I am doing. I didn't enter this business to compete with anybody. I just love the work so much. I know the expectations of the people are very high. But instead of going crazy over the expectations, I am just prioritizing my work."

She continued, "It's really hard to live under the shadow of my mom. I love to make movies that have a good story and are entertaining as well, but it's hard because my mom and I are always compared. She's my mom and I have high respect for her, [but] I hope they won't compare us. She has been in this business for 30 years while I am just starting. And I have my own story too. Kung ano ang magiging buhay ko, yun din ang magiging story ko. I just want to share myself and my talent to the people."

How does she feel with the comment that her acting has improved a lot? "Thanks a lot for such comments. I know that there's so much that I need to work on. I enjoyed myself doing this movie and I hope to get more projects so I could improve so much more on my craft. I want to share with them more interesting stories," said KC.

Count on the premium fashion label Mossimo to infuse the local concert scene with wattage enough to power a band-crazed metropolis. The lifestyle apparel and accessories brand brings to Manila American rock sensation, Journey, in a one-night gig at the SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds on Saturday, March 14.

Fresh from their much-hyped Super Bowl Pre-Game performance beamed to audiences worldwide, the band is set to thrill hard-core Journey fans with the electrifying performance of its mainstays Neal Schon (guitars), Jonathan Cain (keyboards), Ross Valery (bass) and Deen Castronovo (drums).

But sure to drive Filipino audience wild is the sight of fellow Pinoy Arnel Pineda in the flesh performing as the band's new lead vocalist. On the ladder of stardom as he tries to fill the shoes of the voice before him, Pineda points out that "there's only one Steve Perry in this world." He said that breathing new life to Journey's legendary sound means "a lot of hard work on my part."

Tickets at P3605 (VIP), P2575 (Gold), 1545 (Silver) and P515 (Bronze) are available at all Mossimo stores in Metro Manila or through Ticketnet at 9115555.
