“Tuesdays With Morrie,” the highly acclaimed stage play from Little Boy Productions based on Mitch Albom’s bestselling novel, returns to Cebu for a gala performance at 7:30 pm on February 21, Saturday at the SM City Cebu, Cinema 2.
The uplifting, touching and funny two-character play (written by Albom and veteran playwright Jeffrey Hatcher) played to sold-out Manila and provincial crowds last year. “Tuesdays with Morrie” is the true story of a cynical sportswriter named Mitch (Bart Guingona) who forms an unexpected friendship with his old college professor, Morrie Schwartz (Miguel Faustmann). Though suffering from a terminal illness, Morrie still manages to teach his old student a few lessons about life.
The current production, which is directed by theater legend and Repertory Philippines’ artistic director Baby Barredo, stars two of the best actors in the Philippine theater scene.
Bart Guingona, reprising his role from last year, plays Mitch, the harried sportswriter whose preoccupation with work has caused him to lose sight of the things that really matter. Guingona, a highly respected veteran of nearly a hundred theatrical productions, is well known for the passion and intensity he brings to the stage, both as an actor and as a director.
Aliw Award-winning actor and director Miguel Faustmann plays Morrie, stepping into the role marvelously played last year by Jose Mari Avellana. Faustmann, whose heartfelt vulnerability and sensitivity have made him a theater favorite for nearly three decades, is also a perfect fit for the role of Morrie: the warm, wise, and witty professor battling Lou Gehrig’s disease. Faustmann has also recently conquered television playing the role of patriarch David Garcia in ABS-CBN’s primetime soap “Tayong Dalawa.”
