This December 15, not only does Ayala Center Cebu celebrate their 20th anniversary, but Workshy, one of the biggest and brightest names in 80s music, will also perform for the first time at The Terraces.
The unique smooth pop-jazz sound of Workshy can best be remembered in their hit original songs such as “Never the Same”, “You’re the Summer” and Burt Bacharach standards like “I Say A Little Prayer.”
Workshy is also remembered for its hit versions of “If I Ever Lose This Heaven” and Carole King’s “It’s Too Late.”
Formed in London by Michael McDermott, Chrysta Jones and Kevin Kehoe in 1986, Workshy became a duet when Kehoe left the group in 1992.
The band got signed into UK-based Magnet Records in June 1987, and released their debut album “The Golden Mile” in 1989. Since then, they have thus far released 14 albums, the last of which was just last year. Most albums are available in Japan, where they have indelibly made their mark when it comes to smooth jazz and soul music.
These three people were brought together with their love of music, which they have proceeded to share with the rest of their fans. Lead vocals Chrysta Jones comes from a family of musicians, and started singing when she was 11 years old.
Meanwhile, vocalist and bass player McDermott and former Workshy guitarist Kehoe formed a soul-funk-latin group called “Garage” when they were in school at St. Martins. They met Jones, got signed, and the rest is made in memorable smooth jazz history.
Even so, Workshy continues to attract millions worldwide to this day. It has gained a lot of attention, especially in Japan, for its sound best described as Swing Out sister meets down tempo Matt Bianco, with a little Bacharach thrown in.
While here in the Philippines for a four-city tour, Workshy and their particular brand of smooth jazz will entice and soothe the audience at The Terraces. Come prepared for a musical treat.
