Actress KC Concepcion is RP rep to Clinton Global Initiative in HK

KC Concepcion, the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) Philippines National Ambassador Against Hunger, will attend the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) Asia meeting on December 2-3, 2008 in Hong Kong, to promote innovative solutions to addressing hunger and malnutrition in Asia, especially among children.

"I am very excited to participate in this first CGI event in Asia on behalf of WFP, and to urge concerted action to address the challenge of hunger and under-nutrition in Asia," the young actress and idol said.

"I hope that the needs of Asia's children will be recognized by our leaders in government, business and civil society. We need to work together to reverse this vicious cycle of under-nutrition and secure a healthier future for the hungry poor, especially children."

With alarming hunger and malnutrition levels creating barriers to economic growth in many parts of Asia, KC?a popular actress and TV personality?has strongly supported WFP's work providing solutions to hunger in Asia and around the world since her appointment as a National Ambassador in February 2008. 

KC will join WFP Regional Director for Asia, Tony Banbury at the CGI Conference, in calling for nutritious food and life-saving support for children and vulnerable people, particularly those affected by conflict and natural disasters.

"KC's is an important voice for encouraging Asia's leaders that innovative nutritional and food interventions are critical in both emergency and development situations. Ensuring that the food provided to people in emergency, conflict and development situations is nutritious can further boost their chances of survival in facing extremely difficult situations," said Stephen Anderson, WFP's Country Director and Representative in the Philippines.

The long wait is over. Ms. Lorna Tolentino returns to her roots – the Kapamilya network. Last November 26 marked a new milestone in Lorna’s career as she renewed her ties with the network that created the now-classic teleserye Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay. LT, as she is fondly called in the industry, signed a contract for projects in cinema and television which promise to highlight once more her acting prowess that wowed many for decades.

After the recent passing of her husband, actor Rudy Fernandez, many anticipated her next career move, which she jumpstarted with a tribute to her late husband. Hope, a music CD she conceptualized and produced with Star Records. Now her fans are excited as she begins a new stage in her life with the Kapamilya network.

Last September, Lorna bid her GMA bosses goodbye as she finally agreed to accept the offer of ABS-CBN that paved the way for her return to the Kapamilya network. LT is the only actress not affected by the network war.

 “At my age, hindi na kami dapat isinasali pa sa network war. Maayos naman ang naging pagpapaalam ko sa GMA 7. Mas pinili ko ang offer ng Channel 2 kasi gusto ko naman gumawa ng pelikula,” said the actress whose first TV project for ABS-CBN might feature her with Gabby Concepcion and Albert Martinez.

'DAYO' AT THE MALLS.  “Imburnal,” directed by Sherad Anthony Sanchez, won the best picture and best screenplay trophies at the recently concluded Cinema Originals held Friday at the Dolphy Theater inside the ABS-CBN studio.

But it was the Richard Somes film titled “Yanggaw” which won most of the awards. The film explores the eerie side of humanity and the consequences that can wreak havoc over a place or a family when a curse inflicts them.

“Yanggaw” also won the awards for best director for Richard Somes, best actor for Ronnie Lazaro, best supporting actor and supporting actress respectively for Joel Torre and Tetchie Agbayani.

It also picked up awards for best sound (Joey Santos and Eduardo Velasquez), best editing (Borgy Torre) and the Audience Award for Best Digital Movie.

Charee Pineda won her first acting award as best actress for her work in “Alon,” which also won for Mark Gil the best actor award. “Alon,” written and directed by Ron Bryant, is a love story between a forlorn young girl and a lonesome grown man. The film also stars Eula Valdez.

Other winners included Kolorete (Special Jury Prize), best cinematography J. Geolamen,, Jose B. Fiola and John Torres for “Imburnal” and best production design (Wilfredo Calderon, Kat Campuesto, and Maisa Demetillo) for “Kolorete.” The award for best musical scoring was won by Alon’s Leujim Martinez
