Broadway’s longest-running musicale, “A Chorus Line” will finally be performed in Cebu by an all-Cebuano cast of 30 waiting to be filled up by local artists serious in developing their talents in singing, dancing or acting.
The open auditions are set today, Nov. 29, 2008, at the popular bistro, YOU at One Mango, from 9am to 5pm. Auditionees are required to fill up the application form, bring a close-up picture, and a demo cd/tape for either singing or dancing.
Interested parties are also advised to come early to be accommodated within the scheduled hours which will be strictly observed. No one will be entertained after 5pm. Announcement of successful auditionees will be announced at 5:30 for immediate rehearsal the following day.
To recall, “A Chorus Line” was performed only once in the country by Repertory Philippines in Manila back in the late 70’s and no one dared to mount it again for its most difficult and exacting terpsichorean and singing demands. With the influx of talents in Cebu, the production believes that these demands can be fulfilled by local artists who are waiting for the opportunity to be developed.
Two young gifted choreographers, schooled in ballet and jazz, are hired for rigid training of the performers. One is from the world-famous Jess de Paz Leyte Dance Theater who also trained under Power Dance. A veteran musical director handles singing and voice. The production is expected to travel after the Cebu shows in Zamboanga City and Cagayan.
