The Ting Tings Add English Twist To 2008 Mtv Europe Music Awards

Finalists of Europe’s favourite act revealed; Jared Leto & 30 Seconds To Mars to host VIP Bar; Triple-nominated Leona Lewis plus Anastacia and Craig David to present Awards.

MTV Networks International revealed last Monday that British duo The Ting Tings are the latest artists to join the line-up for the 2008 MTV Europe Music Awards alongside fellow Beyoncé, Pink, Duffy, The Killers, Kid Rock, Take That, Estelle and Kanye West. Hosted by Katy Perry, the Awards will be broadcast live from the Liverpool Echo Arena, Liverpool – European Capital of Culture – today, November 7 at 9am, with a primetime telecast here in the Philippines at 7pm.

As well as their debut performance, the 15th MTV Europe Music Awards will also see debut performances by Estelle, Kanye West, Kid Rock and Duffy.

“The fifteenth MTV Europe Music Awards will be remembered as a night of the incredible debuts,” commented Richard Godfrey, Senior Vice President, Music and Production & Executive Producer, MTV Europe Music Awards. “The Ting Tings join other artists on the line-up who are performing on the stage of the MTV Europe Music stage for the very first time.”

The Ting Tings – Katie White and Jules De Martino – have released several massive singles this year including the UK number 1 hit ‘That’s Not My Name’. Their debut album ‘We Started Nothing’ also hit Number 1 and is the only debut album from a UK band to achieve Platinum status in 2008 to date.

“We are really excited to be playing at the MTV Europe Music Awards, we get to have a lie in for once as it’s only down the road from us in Liverpool. It’s gonna be a great night before we set off on our European tour the following day,” added Jules & Katie, The Ting Tings.

The five finalists were also revealed in the Europe’s Favourite Act category – Emre Aydin (Turkey); Dima Bilan (Russia); Finley (Italy); Leona Lewis (UK) and Shiri Maimon (Israel). Over successive weeks across Europe MTV’s audience have voted in an intense battle to see their favourite bands go through to final of Europe’s Favourite Act. The final winner was to be revealed live on Thursday, 6th November.

Following the success of last year’s VIP Bar, Jared Leto and members of 30 Seconds to Mars are to host the VIP Bar in the Echo Arena. The band is nominated in the Rock Out and Video star categories.

Triple-nominated Leona Lewis – in categories Album of the Year, Act of 2008 and Europe’s Favourite Act – will also attend the MTV Europe Music Awards to present an award and is joined by Anastacia, multi-platinum singer songwriter and Craig David. Anastacia last performed at the MTV Europe Music Awards in Rome (2004) and returned in 2005 in Lisbon with Leto as a presenter.
