No matter how the big breaks seem to delay the course of someone’s showbiz career, a great talent couldn’t be denied the success she deserves. Time and again it would be proven that exceptional individuals go places. The only question is when.
For talented singer Raki Vega, this year has been sending the message that the time to harvest the goods is now. Big and good projects have come to her these past few months, making her a very busy 27-year old act accomplishing things one after the other.
After a slow-paced career growth though not lacking in major achievements, the breaks have come pouring in like a much-awaited rain. Raki just signed up with Star Records and was picked by the label to be its bet to the upcoming ASEAN IKON Philippines competition. She has now started recording for a concept cover album that will showcase her vocal power and ingenuity.
“It feels fortunate to be seeing the breaks coming at such a fast rate,” she said when asked about her thought about the sudden string of blessings showering in.
Fact is she has impressed a lot of very significant people in the industry that somewhat brought her to where fruits are abundant. TV host Boy Abunda is one of those amazed by her talent that she ended up singing the Michael Jackson original “Childhood” off his best-selling album “Love Life,” which was released early this year. The album featured songs the respected host love and some of his conversations with important people in his life. In the press conference to promote the album, Boy was quick to express his fondness for Raki’s ability to beautifully sing.
A long-time choir singer and a voice coach herself, Raki was introduced to the public years back when she won the “Ultimate Born Diva” title. She has been on the winning track since then, joining in competitons and bringing home the bacon as expected. She triumphed at the World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) in Hollywood last year, reaching the grand finals with the likes of Jed Madela, the Cercado Sisters, Reymond Sajor and Aria Clemente. She has done musicals and sung to countless corporate shows and big-time events.
“Music is life and it has been a part of me ever since, like breathing,” expressed the Cebuana discovery who is a self-confessed Beatles fanatic who, unlikely but amusingly for a girl like her, collects and knows the Fab Four songs by heart. Her major influence as a singer is the internationally fabulous Lea Salonga who is her mentor.
With 2008 still to reach halfway through, the needed breaks have filled up her schedule and it is likely to go on throughout the year. She has recorded the female track of ABS-CBN’s “Lobo’s” theme originally sung by Martin Nievera. In the process, she has attained the privilege to even participate in a music video shoot with the Concert King.
An endorser of Clara International beauty products, Raki cannot ask for more and feels so blessed getting good opportunities in quick successions. Her Christian faith and optimism have enabled her to look past life’s troubles and focus on what the present is giving and what the future holds for.
As icing on the cake, she is now being managed by STAGES, a group of Christian artists known to breed highly potential acts. She shared, “Ang blessings na dumadating sa akin ay overtaking. For me I always see to it that I give my 100% in everything I do. I offer everything to Him.”
A grand prize winner of ABS CBN’s “Born Diva” reality-TV show, Raki has lived up to her title as the “Ultimate Born Diva,” proving through talent, determination and humility that she really is one.
