Aga Muhlach, Anne Curtis in 'When Love Begins'

Aga Muhlach and Anne Curtis are brought together for the first time on the big screen by Star Cinema and Viva Films in the romance-drama “When Love Begins” directed by Jose Javier Reyes.

Set in the picturesque island of Boracay, Aga and Anne turn on the heat in the hottest summer destination in the country. The scorching heat of the sun is matched by the sensitive portrayals brought by the two lead actors. The award-winning director was also very pleased that Star Cinema and Viva Films agreed to transport the entire cast and crew to Boracay to capture the beauty of the place that no other film has done before.

In this new movie, Direk Joey presents another dissection in presenting a new aspect in a relationship; this time talking about commitment, something that the characters of Aga and Anne can’t give.

 “This movie is very personal to me because I’ve always felt that all the movies shot in Boracay have never captured the true beauty of the island. I go there thrice a year, so going back there and doing a movie was really an experience. I consider Bora as one of the most beautiful places on earth. It’s very inspiring to work there. Boracay has always been my sanctuary and for the first time I allowed work to invade my sanctuary. At first it was awkward, but it was really worth it.”

Direk Joey shared his experience working with Aga and Anne.

 “I’ve done so many movies with Aga before and again, this is a pleasant experience. He’s a personal friend, so again, I’m looking forward to working with him again and again.”

 “As with Anne, on the other hand, this is the first time I’ve worked with her and it is a delight. I am happy that I have been entrusted and given the privilege of working with them. Anne is so uncomplicated, walang arte, walang kiyeme, napakabait at pleasant na bata. And I want to work with her again, very very soon. After the many months working with them, I’m very happy,” says Direk Joey.

 “When Love Begins” opens April 30 in theaters nationwide.

It is the most talked-about artistic movement to date, bannered by some of the brightest and most daring creative minds in music and cinema. It is the Brave New Movement, and this April, the group takes a bold step forward with the release of its second film project “Sa Pagdapo ng Mariposa.”

Directed by Will Fredo—who also megged the independently-produced and critically-acclaimed “Compound”—“Sa Pagdapo ng Mariposa” stars Marcus Madrigal and Josh Deocareza as a sepak takraw athlete and a therapist/nurse who find themselves drawn into intimacies they never thought possible. Because of his natural urges as a man, Marcus’ character finds himself struggling and trying to resist being draw into an unlikely attraction to his caregiver.

According to Will, “It’s a very personal movie. But more than anything else, it’s a movie about coming to terms with who you are, and when you do know, that do you do about it?”

Both actors were drawn to the powerful storyline. “When I read the script, I immediately fell in love with the story, especially because of the character that I was to portray. It has so much into it. There’s a major twist that not even the actors would ever think of,” says Josh.

Josh admits that in the beginning, he had to rethink his decision to do the movie because of certain sensitive scenes. But when he talked to the director, Will explained how those scenes would play an integral part in developing the feel of the movie. As an actor, he appreciated that. “As a director, it’s great that he takes time to talk to his actors about their characters, which is very important for me as an actor. He spends time talking with his actors about their characters and gives them freedom to explore them,” he says.

Marcus says “Brokeback Mountain,” which starred the late Heath Ledger, is one of the films that inspired him during the filming of “Sa Pagdapo ng Mariposa.” What he liked about the film, says Marcus, was despite its gay undertones, the movie was an example of a film that was daring, but not so much in the physical sense.

It is exactly the kind of movie the Brave New Movement tried to make with “Sa Pagdapo ng Mariposa.” The movie opens on April 23 at Robinson’s Galleria IndieSine.

GMA News and Public Affairs is set to mark another milestone in the field of broadcasting as it presents “Signos: Banta ng Nagbabagong Klima.” The special seeks to present a relevant discussion on the universal issue of climate change that the people do not pay much attention on.

Climate change is being felt everywhere in the world, and the Philippines is not spared of this global phenomenon. In Bicol and in El Nido, there is an attempt on biodiversity because of coral bleaching. Underwater life there is experiencing migratory patterns.

In Cagayan, one areas was adversely affected by snail fever, while in General Nakkar, the Aetas got sick of malaria.

Even the typhoons Reming and Milenyo were believed to cause by climate change. And since the Philippines has several coastal areas, there is possibility that the sea level would rise by one meter,
