From the summer of 1996, the charts were never quite to be the same again. Spice Girls became the world’s most famous girl group of all time, shooting straight to number one with their debut single Wannabe. Instantly Emma, Geri, Mel B, Melanie C and Victoria became household names, sold millions of albums, traveled the world, made headline after headline, broke all the records and became part of the cultural fabric of this country.
Spice Girls bring back those high-flying times with their much-anticipated greatest hits album under EMI Philippines.
The album charts the history of the band, starting with Wannabe, which originally went to Number 1 in the UK and 30 other countries in July 1996, right up to the present day, with two brand new songs, the forthcoming single Headlines (Friendship Never Ends) and Voodoo. The collection also includes their three consecutive Christmas Number One singles (a record they share with The Beatles), 2 Become 1 (1996), Too Much (1997) and Goodbye (1998).
The new single Headlines (Friendship Never Ends) will be the official 2007 Children In Need song in the UK. The girls will be donating all profits to the charity.
Fifty five million records sold, an astonishing nine UK No.1 singles, three-back-to-back UK Christmas No.1 singles and, in Wannabe, the biggest selling single ever by an all female group, the Spice Girls have very little to prove, except that proper pop is back. This is one Greatest Hits album that is long overdue.
As well as a standard CD and digital release, formats will also include a 2-disc version, which features a DVD with all the promo videos. There will also be a special limited box set, which includes exclusive Karaoke and remix CD’s, friendship bracelet, postcards and all the hits on both CD and DVD. Spice Girl’s Greatest hits is released under EMI Philippines.
