The real-life teleserye of Gretchen Barretto

SHOWBIZ DRIBBLE - Salve V. Asis -

So what’s the latest episode in the continuing real-life teleserye of Gretchen Barretto?

My source tells me Gretchen got an offer she apparently finds hard to resist from the new man in her life, Dodie Puno.

Mr. Puno has reportedly popped the big question and asked Greta to marry him. The plot thickens!

Will Gretchen accept and finally ring the curtains on her turbulent relationship with Tonyboy Cojuangco? They had a good thing going, despite the many twists and turns. (Remember the infamous photo of Gretch and John Estrada kissing? Her lame explanation that Tonyboy loved her so much he shrugged off the incident?) Somehow I get the feeling that the relationship had run its course. It was just a matter of time. Then along came Dodie…

Will he be the white knight come to rescue the romantically distressed damsel?

There are subplots to this teleserye that need to be resolved. The biggest is Dominique, Tonyboy and Greta’s daughter. Expect a tug-of-war for her.

Another couple that’s supposed going through a shaky stretch are Sharon Cuneta and Sen. Kiko Pangilinan. The buzz is that the Megastar, despite her all-is-well countenance on camera, is anguishing over rumors that her hubby has two love children. Who’s the other woman? There are a lot of speculations but no strong leads yet. And neither Sharon nor Kiko has denied or confirmed the rumors.

Ariel Ureta has just revealed on air that Direk Joey Reyes has accepted an offer from GMA to do three teleseryes for the network. Joey’s last project for ABS-CBN was the highly successful Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo. “I don’t think there will be a sequel to Sakal for quite a while,” Ariel, who starred in Sakal, noted in his radio show on DZMM.

There are still do-gooders left in Hollywood, after all.

Last week actor George Clooney was named a “messenger of peace” by the United Nations. Clooney promptly promised to use his fame to “'shine a light'” on UN’s peacekeeping efforts, particularly in troubled Darfur in Sudan.

Ironically, in the movie Peacekeeper, Clooney played a military officer who has no scruples about using force and deceit in defeating terrorists.

At a news conference after his appointment, Clooney said about the humanitarian crisis in Darfur: “'The message is the world is watching and that at this point we cannot afford to fail. Millions are homeless, not from famine or disease or acts of God, but from a well armed militia intent on ridding the land of its people.”

Clooney is UN’s ninth messenger of peace. The messengers are chosen for their celebrity status and their ability to draw attention to world problems the UN is trying to resolve.
