Love takes a backseat for Richard Gutierrez

Richard Gutierrez still worked at the birthday party given by GMA Network last Tuesday at One Esplanada complex near the Mall of Asia.

It was business mixed with pleasure. While Richard’s guests were partying, Richard’s birthday special titled “A Handsome Journey” was being taped. The special will be aired this Sunday on GMA.

Even if the central figure in the said special was Richard, also a part of the special was his twin brother Raymond who served as host. Also present was his sister Ruffa Gutierrez as guest, since she’s a contract star of ABS-CBN and can’t really participate in the special. Also there were Eddie Gutierrez and Annabelle Rama, his proud parents.

Among Richard’s special guests on his birthday special included Jewel Mische, one of his leading ladies in his top-rating GMA series “Kamandag.” What also added excitement was the VTR greeting given by Anne Curtis and KC Concepcion, which surprised and elated Richard so much.

At the presscon of “My Bestfriend’s Girlfriend” held the other night at Patio Ibarra in Timog, Quezon City, Richard said he’s not yet ready to fall in love. After his breakup with Georgina Wilson, he wants to give his heart a rest. Besides, he will be very busy for the months of February and March. Richard said it would be unfair for the girl if he won’t be able to give her enough time, owing to his busy schedule.

The young actor is very proud of his team-up with Marian Rivera in “My Bestfriend’s Girlfriend” and he’s praying that the movie directed by Mark Reyes will also be a hit.

Independent cinema’s matinee idol Coco Martin plays his most daring role in “Daybreak.” After his New Year offering “Condo” which earned him critical acclaim for his acting, Coco outdoes himself in Adolf Alix’s newest film where he plays a tour guide in Tagaytay.

“I gave everything in this production especially since this is produced by my manager who wanted me to excel in this picture,” said Coco who waived his talent fee and instead opted to be a co-investor in the film. “I believe in this project that I did things I didn’t previously do in my other films, and I’m happy that the results are satisfactory.”

Coco had no qualms in doing love scenes with come-backing actor Paolo Rivero since one, he has known Paolo since they filmed “Masahista” together; and two, the scenes are called for and properly contextualized in the course of the picture.

After watching “Daybreak,” Coco hopes that, “people should understand the reality and complexity of gay relationships.”  “The film challenges us to look at ourselves – and how far we would go to fight for our relationships,” he added.

Understand the “Daybreak” experience. The film premieres on February 13 and 14 at the UP Film Center and will have a regular run at Robinson’s IndieSine starting February 20. It will be shown in Robinson’s Bacolod from March 5 to 11.
