Judy Ann, Ryan talk about marriage, shared interests, and respecting each other’s space

-

As Judy Ann Santos and Ryan Agoncillo reprise their roles as the young married couple Angie and Jed—with parenting responsibilities this time around—in “Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo,” the sequel to last year’s box-office hit “Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo,” questions on what major strides they have taken in their real-life relationship naturally arise.

During a recently-held online presscon powered by the Philippine web portal Yehey!, the couple was asked by some regional press members and Pinoy fans from different parts of the globe if they ever felt suffocated by each other, at one point or another, during the course of their three-year relationship.

Judy Ann says that they keep such things from happening by allowing room for each other’s individual pursuits and interests. “Hindi pa kami nagsasakalan. Pinapabayaan ko si Ryan sa hobbies niya. Pinapabayaan nya rin ako sa hobbies ko.”

“She doesn’t meddle with my business, my money. Judy Ann doesn’t tell me to quit my hobbies. Hindi pa ako nakakahanap ng tao who will tell me to quit my hobby—yung motor ko,” the motorcycle fanatic Ryan agrees.

“Mas okay sa akin na ang sinasakyan nya ang motor lang, kesa iba. Dun na sya sa motor,” jokes Judy Ann, before turning serious. “You will do everything to make it work when you’re married. I’m sure you’ll compromise when you love the family.”

It helps too that the two also share a lot of common interests, especially when it comes to food, travel and even dating ideas. Thus, the need to compromise may not be that necessary.

For one, Juday says that they derive their bonding moments from embarking on say, movie marathons. “We watch three movies in a day. Na-enjoy ko yung updated ka sa movies. Although, we want to try new things, na hindi iisipin ng tao na susubukan namin.”

True, a mutual love for exciting adventures is also one thing that keeps them together. Ryan adds, “Adrenalin junkie kasi kami. We love scaring our selves: scuba, bungee-jumping, motor-cycle and car racing... We are always together in trying new things.”

As for the undoubtedly challenging life-long “adventure” of marriage, the two did not back down on any question that candidly inquired about their thoughts about it.

When asked where they would want to get married, Judy Ann says that it’s going to be definitely inside a church. And how about their ideal honeymoon destination? “Honeymoon? we’ll go to a place na pareho kaming alien. We want to travel to  Vietnam, Southeast Asia. Ang habol ko sa travels is yung pagkain,” shares Juday.

Another question was raised: would they mind having in-laws and other family members living with them when they’re already married? Judy Ann says, “No problem kung kasama ang parents. Pero s’yempre, bagong kasal, gusto muna i-try yung mag-isa.”

“There will come a point na we’ll have to earn our own independence,” adds Ryan.

And as for their “dream” wedding...

“Gusto ko sa wedding simple lang,” Judy Ann says. “Basta, I’ll make sure that I’ll be there,” Ryan says.

One of the official entries to this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival, “Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo,” produced by Star Cinema and directed by Jose Javier Reyes, is now showing in cinemas nationwide. (NMT)
