“What would you give yourself this Christmas?”

- Jen F. Vega -

‘Tis the season of gift-giving. Oh, how we love Christmas and all its thrills and fancies. Even performers/artists/musicians feel the same way. I had the chance to ask some of the country’s women performers this question: If you were to give yourself a gift this Christmas, what would it be? Read on to unwrap their Christmas wish list.

Sitti Navarro

After a series of sold-out concerts in some key cities of the country, Philippines’ bossa nova queen deserves a breather. It has been a good year for Sitti Navarro since she re-introduced Bossa Nova to the music scene. For someone who has been very successful this year as proven by the massive following that she has gained, what Sitti wants for Christmas is... “A ticket to go on a cruise anywhere in the world for a well-deserved vacation,” quipped Sitti.

Hannah Romawac of Session Road

Hannah Romawac, the lead vocalist/guitarist of Session Road, wants to finish building her practice studio before the year ends. As one of the key players in the Philippine music circuit, Hannah continuously hones her musical prowess and improves her craft. Way to go, Hannah!

Acel Bisa-Van Ommen

When the former Moonstar88 vox finally decided to go solo in 2007, she was able to produce her own album out of her collection of unreleased songs that she wrote for the past years. Singer and songwriter Acel Bisa-Van Ommen did not only find for herself a new budding career, but also the man destined for her.

Acel is the voice behind the song “One Love”—the theme song of ABS-CBN’s new Koreanovela Spring Waltz. For Acel: “If I will give myself a gift, I will give myself a whole week vacation by the beach with my husband.”

Armi Millare of UpDharmaDown

“Simple, just an 88-key Bosendorfer 280.” That’s another keyboard for Armi. Vocalist/keyboardist Armi romances her keyboards like a pro while her voice echoes in an extraordinary manner. (I just so admire her voice!).

Aia de Leon of Imago

Aia’s stage performance is the most laudable—she never fails to become the crowd favorite the moment she starts to bring out the “rocker” in her. She’s the voice behind the OPM hits like Taralets, Sundo, Walang Misteryo, Anino, Akap, among others. There are two tangible things that she wishes to give herself for Christmas: to own a condo unit and a Suzuki Swift. But above all else she emphasized her heart’s desires—“for things to fall neatly into place and for God’s will in my life to finally unfold. Peace for everyone around me.”

Kitchie Nadal

What’s up with Kitchie Nadal? The pop rock princess has been promoting the Drama Queen TV EP album which is a compilation of her popular theme songs. Her sophomore album is still in the works. After months of juggling school and work, Kitchie is off to the U.S. for the holidays to visit her sister. This much-awaited quality time with her sister is one thing that Kitchie has had wished of giving herself for a long time now.

Juris Fernandez of MYMP

One of the country’s finest acoustic acts today is MYMP—Juris Fernandez and Chin Alcantara. After two sold-out concerts at the big dome (Araneta Coliseum), the duo released their third album dubbed as New Horizon, that is equally best-selling as their previous albums. “I used to have one but nasira. I had no plan buying na dapat but I realized I badly need it for Graduate School. I actually bought it already – printer/scanner/photocopier!!! Very helpful!” says Juris of the gift that she has already given herself this Christmas.

Lougee Basabas of  Mojofly

Alternative rock band Mojofly vox Lougee Basabas is not only into music but is also a big lover of dogs. And so Lougee said she’d like a new puppy for Christmas.
