2 young pianists to present masterworks in concert

-

Two of Cebu’s young generation pianists are giving a concert at the Marcelo B. Fernan Cebu Press Center, Ecotech Bldg. Lahug. Rudolf Golez and Chloe Canton are the two soloists rendering their best piano works to Cebu’s music lovers. Canton plays at the first part, followed by Golez. There will be no duplication of styles or composers. All periods are represented throughout the concert, from Baroque to Impressionism.

The concert is so programmed that each pianist’s musical strength is highlighted. In the case of Canton, she will be offering J.S Bach’s Italian Concerto and Beethoven’s D Major Sonata (the early one) op.10. Evidently, the musical thinking involved in these two Masterworks is clear. The Sonata Form is in-focus, that is, Bach’s foreshadowing Classicism, and its fulfillment to true Classical treatment in the Beethoven.

As for Golez’s program, French school pianism is in-focus. Offering Masterworks of Debussy and Chopin, his strength of elegant playing which is characteristic of the French school is highlighted. Chopin, being half-French and who lived most of his life in France, is most effective when played with élan and refinement with an undercurrent of heroism and nationalism that refer to his native Poland. This will be evident in his Third Sonata in four movements—Golez’s Finale. Golez’s other item, though lesser known and even lesser played in the Philippine setting is Debussy’s Suite ‘pour le piano’ or ‘for the piano.’ It exhausts all possible sound techniques in the mind of the father of French impressionism, Claude Debussy.

This concert covers all eras from Baroque to Impressionist or late Romantic. With the Sonata Form and French Pianism in-focus, the two soloists will truly be a thrilling exhibition of their own pianism, which is sure to delight the Cebu audience this November 28, 2007 (Wednesday) at 8:00 pm

The performance of the two young pianists is made possible through the generous support and assistance of the following friends and sponsors—Ayala Center Cebu, SM City Cebu, Cebu Holdings, Inc., Boysen Philippines, Equipment Technical Services, Metro Gaisano, New Century Accessories, Nito’s Auto Supply, Solid Construction, Inc., Toyoflex Cebu Corporation, Directories Philippines Corporation, Hoyohoy Villas, Edgeworth Properties, Inc., and Power 89.1.
