Besides playing the female lead in the indie film “Ligaw Liham,” Karylle also serves as producer and marketing manager of the movie. “Ligaw Liham,” which is one of the entries in the Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival, had its world premiere Saturday night at the CCP Main Theater.
Though the film had a limited budget, Karylle was glad to have accepted the offer to play the female lead in the movie that was shot in Bacolod. She almost lost the project due to a conflict in the schedule. The production people tried to convince Karylle to agree on the original dates for filming but required changes in her schedule. Luckily, the filming sked was delayed a bit and Karylle was able to take the part in the shoot.
“It sounded so nice na owner na ako ng film. Pero dahil nagkaroon na kami ng problema sa marketing, tumulong na rin ako sa aspect na ito. Parang feeling ko sariling sikap na production ito,” said Karylle.
“Nakakuha naman ako ng sponsors, one of them was my friend. At least, ang mga classmates ko ngayon, nasa position na sila na they could accept sponsorship kaya nakahingi rin ako ng tulong sa kanila,” she added.
Even her boyfriend Dingdong Dantes helped Karylle in her first ever indie film. It was Dingdong who spon-sored the printing cost of the postcards of “Ligaw Liham” that were distributed to those who watched the film at the CCP last Saturday.

Roderick Paulate is back! The lovable actor is playing Aga Muhlach’s nemesis named Major Ret, a retired military officer who stands as the leader of Barangay Tabuneknek in the new sitcom “That’s My Doc.” This signals Roderick’s return to acting since the defunct series “Bora” on ABS-CBN.
The series, which premieres on Sunday, July 29, also marks Aga’s return to the TV scene after a year of being away from the limelight. In “That’s My Doc,” Aga plays Agaton Abogado, a pediatrician who sought greener pastures in the United States as a nurse but returned to the Philippines after suffering from bouts of homesickness and embarking on a quest for the true meaning of life.
Roderick is one of the very few actors who are able to do shows for both ABS-CBN Channel 2 and GMA 7 with nary a hitch. We’re sure other showbiz stars can learn a thing or two from him with regards to being loyal since it’s very obvious that some stars in our midst don’t treasure the value of loyalty and trust at all. Dick said his secret is keeping communication lines clear and open with the people he deals with in either station. That way, he doesn’t fall into the trap of having to burn bridges.
He also wants everything in black and white because whether we admit it or not, showbiz is just a small world and chances are, the same people you meet going up the ladder of success are the same people you’ll meet should you fall from grace. More or less that was how the interview with Roderick at the presscon of “That’s My Doc” went. Of course, this was an offshoot from the ongoing controversy involving Angel Locsin’s impending transfer to the Kapamilya network.
He says he doesn’t have any idea regarding the issue and even asked a writer to give him a background of it. But Kuya Dick said he would surely react differently if he was not treated fairly by the network where he works. “I won’t be like an angel if that happens. But then, we don’t really know the real story with what happened between Angel and GMA 7 but I guess the network did take good care of her,” said the actor.
Dick says there was a point in time that he felt sore at Channel 2. He had no regular shows then after his last show “Bora” ended. He went freelance after that. “Natural lang naman na magtampo,” he said. “The family was growing, there were more stars coming in and things were changing. Kung hindi ka man mapansin, di naman sinasadya. But just like in any family, may tampo ka man, babalik at babalik ka pa rin sa family mo.”
“When I was offered by GMA 7 to do shows for them, I asked the permission of Ma’am Charo Santos Concio. I also told GMA 7 that I cannot sign an exclusive contract with them because I am awaiting word from ABS-CBN as to what are their plans for me,” said Dick.
So after a few months, Dick is back in the ABS-CBN fold via “That’s My Doc” that also stars Nova Villa, Bayani Agbayani, Precious Lara Quigaman, Jake Cuenca, Eda Nolan, and Celine Lim, under the direction of Danni Caparas.

Rayver Cruz doesn’t believe rumors that there’s something romantic going between Shaina Magdayao and John Prats. He said he understands why Shaina is a guy magnet because she’s pretty. He’s still courting Shaina up to now and the petite teen star hasn’t said yes. They are still in the getting-to-know-each-other stage. One thing’s certain, they are so comfortable with each other as they’re always together.
But Rayver admitted he felt jealous when the rumor about Shaina and John getting along fine first reached him. But just the same, he believed what Shaina told her that John is not courting her.
Rayver just got back from his first trip abroad and this was very memorable for him. With him on the trip were Shaina, Kim Chiu, Gerald Anderson, Bea Alonzo and John Lloyd Cruz. They received a very warm welcome wherever they went and Rayver wishes that he could return to the US again. Shaina, on the other hand, decided to extend her vacation that’s why Rayver went home ahead with the rest of the stars minus his screen partner.
Rayver turned 18 last July 20. He celebrated it with his family through a dinner in a Japanese restaurant.

Sultry singer Alynna (the voice behind the hit song “Kahit Gaano Kalaki”) is back in the music scene to seek the spotlight anew. Alynna had a problem with the producer of her first CD and with her contract that’s why she decided to lie low and focus her energies on other things and businesses like real estate.
And Alynna’s efforts paid off as she earned quite a good sum of money. Unfortunately, she became the victim of a financing scam—or what she believes is a scam. Someone borrowed money from her, with the promise to pay but it has been two years and she has yet to receive payment. The money was supposed to have been invested in a corporation. The initial loan amounting to P1 M has ballooned to P3 M through the years.
“He’s just around. He’s not hiding naman,” said Alynna. But she’s getting impatient in wanting to get her money back. Besides, it’s no joke to file a case when a big amount of money is involved. And she had to save money before she filed last week an estafa case amounting to P3 M in Taguig where she resides. But she’s determined to pursue the case and get back what is due to her. She’s just waiting for the call from her lawyer regarding the hearing of the case.
Meanwhile, Alynna will be busy for the promo of her CD lite which was re-released in the market by Viva Records featuring the single “Yakap sa Dilim.”
