The audience was awash with warm and wonderful feelings of reminiscence and nostalgia during the first-ever Dr. Jose R. Gullas awards dubbed as "Halad: Sugbuanong Kanta" last Thursday night at the Casino Español de Cebu.
In coordination with The Freeman, Banat News, and DYAB, which aired the event live, the awards night-cum-tribute concert feted posthumous recognitions for "Matud Nila" composer Ben Zubiri and "Kasadya Ning Taknaa" composer Vicente Rubi and lyricist Mariano Vestil for their timeless and immeasurable contributions to Cebuano arts in music.
The event also aimed on reliving the lyrical beauty and immortal melody of Cebuano songs of yesteryears, according to Jose "Sir Dodong" Gullas.
