Come march with the Penguins
September 20, 2006 | 12:00am
A breathtakingly photographed but very sentimental documentary about Emperor penguins.
One of the most beautiful love stories on Earth does not involve humans. It is told by penguins.
Each winter, alone in the pitiless deserts of Antarctica, deep in the most inhospitable terrain in the world, a truly remarkable journey takes place as it has done for millennia. Emperor penguins in the thousands abandon the deep blue security of their ocean home and clamber onto the frozen ice to begin their long journey into a region so bleak, so extreme, it supports no other wildlife at this time of year.
In single file, the penguins march through blinding blizzards, gale-force winds and stay focused on their drive to reach their destination. There they will reproduce, bear their young, and overcome all obstacles to keep their family alive for the survival of their species.
Theirs is an incredible story of courage, adventure and survival. Humans can learn not just a thing or two, but the entire essence of love, devotion and commitment to family from the penguins.
"Penguin, Penguin, Paano Ka Ginawa" is the touching story of the Emperor Penguins on this incredible journey and sojourn in the freezing wild. Narrated in Pilipino by megastar, Sharon Cuneta, this splendid documentary won Best Documentary Feature at the 78th Annual Academy Awards last March and is being shown for the first time in the Philippines.
Unico Entertainment acquired the production, internationally titled "March of the Penguins" from Wild Bunch Productions and had its premiere showing last September 7 at the Butterbuch Hall, USC Main Campus. The full documentary will be shown in Cebu theaters this September 20.
Directed by Luc Jacque and shot patiently, beautifully by its awesome production crew right where the long tale of love and drama unfolds, the documentary runs 85 minutes long and is also recommended for film students, school children, animal lovers, adults, children and the entire family.
Apart from its Oscar achievement, "March of the Penguins" also won Best Editing and Best Cinematography at the British Academy Awards; was chosen Best Documentary by the British Film Critics Association, the Chicago Film Critics Association, the Las Vegas Film Critics Association, the Online Film Critics Association, the Phoenix Film Critics Association, the St. Louis Gateway Film Critics Association, and the National Board of Review.
The Writers Guild of America also named "Penguins" editor Sabine Emiliani Best Documentary Editor in 2005 and gave "Penguins" writer Jordan Roberts "Best Documentary Screenplay."
"Penguin, Penguin, Paano Ka Ginawa" is the must-see film of the year. The premiere showing was sponsored by McDonald's, 96.3 DW Lite Rock and Purefoods Tender Juicy.
