Two for the show: Meet the Roco twins

-
It was in QPIDS, ABS-CBN's reality TV search for loveteams, wherein the viewing public got a good look at Felix and Dominic Roco, the youngest and good-looking twins of acting luminary Bembol Roco.

Felix and Dominic, who first tried acting by performing in school-based plays, claimed that they never had plans of making it to showbiz, adding that their entry happened by accident. "It was unexpected na nag-showbiz kami. By accident lang 'yun. Nag-guest po kasi ako nang isang show sa ABS-CBN dati. Tapos, the day after that, tumawag po 'yung talent center sa dad ko, asking if I can go back. My dad then said that I have a twin. So pumunta po kami sa talent center," Felix said in an interview with The FREEMAN Entertainment.

With each subsequent TV appearance of the Roco twins came more pressure to deliver. Naturally, a lot of people have high expectations of them being sons of an award-winning actor.

Although they seem inseparable on television, each possesses different talents and potentials that they want to share with the people. "Gusto ko pong maging versatile eh. I want to be good in all aspects of acting. Pero I really want to do comedy and drama," Felix said. "Ako po dancing and drama rin," Dominic added.

Since gone were the gangly frames of the two, who seem to have bulked up, they had to be asked if they would ever consider going sexy. They objected that they are not ready for it, and too young to doing such roles. But should that kind of role come at a right time, when they are already mature in terms of age and acting, they will be open to it, but with limitations.

They also differ in personality and well, in physical features if only a tiny bit. Dominic, who has a scar under his chin due to a childhood stumble, is more buffed than Felix. He is also the silent and serious type as opposed to the gregarious, chatty and "pilyo" Felix. Their ideal girl also varies, as Felix stated that he likes a girl who is simple and down-to-earth. His crush in showbiz is Anne Curtis. Dominic, on the other hand, likes chinitas who wears their hair long like Pinoy Big Brother teen housemate Nina Jose.

The two shared that to have a twin is advantageous and fun. Felix and Dominic recalled that they tried to exchange identities when they were young. "We did it once, when we're young. Wala lang, we just tried it nung Grade 6 kami. Hindi kami magkaklase kasi. Hindi naman kami napansin, so tinuloy lang namin. Ang mali ko lang, sinulat ko pangalan ko sa class ni Felix, so buking. Wala, bagsak kaagad kami. Si dad naman, wala lang, natuwa na lang," Dominic enthused.

Meanwhile, the twins are currently fourth year high school students at Seed Montessori School in Quezon City. Soon they'll be in college, wherein Dominic would like to take up Mass Communications while Felix wants to enroll in Fine Arts. "I just want to express my mind... to draw. Ayoko din ng Math eh, kaya iniiwasan ko," Felix explained.

Education has always been their priority. "Before we went into showbiz, our father wants us to finish our school first. So, we made a promise to our dad to finish schooling," the twins said.

The twins have been in showbiz for two years now. So far, their careers are getting along just fine, even without taking advantage of their father's standing in the industry. The two, however, admitted they still have a lot of proving to do to be like their father.

"Our dad never gives us acting tips. Parang we need to learn it ourselves. For me, nahihiya ako na tinuturuan ako ng tatay ko for acting. I feel conscious, parang pride rin siguro," said Felix, adding that their dad instead cautioned them against peers that might bring about the pitfalls of fame like drug addiction.

The Roco twins are starring in the upcoming ABS-CBN superserye "Super Inggo," which is headlined by Little Big Star's Makisig Morales as Budong/Super Inggo. However, they are now under the management of GMA-7.

"Before, we were under Star Magic (of ABS-CBN) but now we're under GMA already. Before our contract ended sa ABS, ginagawa na po namin 'yung 'Super Inggo.' Pumayag naman po ang GMA na tapusin namin 'yung 'Super Inggo.' Meron na pong line up ng projects ang GMA but we can't announce it yet," Felix stated.

In the superserye, "Super Inggo," which will be teeming with komiks icons and kids with superpowers, the Roco twins, Empress Schuck (a.k.a. Ava Abaniko) and Little Big Star Big Division winner Sam Concepcion (a.k.a Boy Bawang) will have a "love square." "Dito, ako po may gusto kay Ava, si Felix din po. Tapos si Ava may gusto kay Sam. So three boys and one girl," Dominic said.

"Super Inggo" will start to roll on TV screens on August 21 on ABS-CBN. - Rhea A. Papas
