Kahayag Café to hold film screenings
July 28, 2006 | 12:00am
In line with its cinema project, Kahayag Café will hold film screenings this Saturday, July 29, at Kahayag Café from 1-7pm. Films to be shown on widescreen include Pedro Almodovar's thriller "La Mala Education (Bad Education)" starring Gael Garcia Bernal and Émile Gaudreault's acclaimed comedy "Mambo Italiano."
Kahayag Café is also screening Cebuano filmmaker Poppet Celdran's short and full-length films "Tuliro," "Ritwal" and "Mga Paru-parung Rosas." "Tuliro" is a thriller starring Joel Torre and John Arcilla.
"Ritwal" tells the story of the daily grind of a mother and her daughter struggling to make ends meet. Like clockwork, they mindlessly return to the cycle of household chores and petty preoccupations that have marked all other mornings. But before they know it, there is a shift in the weather and something sudden and unexpected takes place. As the story unfolds and the characters inhabit the remains of the day, everything is not what it seems.
"Mga Paru-parung Rosas" is described as a new type of love story. "Gays are being typecast as funny and comical, but the film goes deeper than that," said the director, Poppet Celdran, who also serves as production manager and director of photography at Bigfoot Entertainment. The film is also planned to be shown at the U.P. Adarna Theatre.
The screening schedules are as follows: "Mambo Italiano" (1:30 PM - 92 minutes), "La Mala Education" (3:15 PM - 106 minutes), "Tuliro" (5 PM - 5 minutes), "Ritwal" (5:07 PM - 18 minutes) and "Mga Paru-parung Rosas" (5:30 PM - 77 minutes).
Sponsoring the event is the International Academy of Film & Television. Entrance fee is P75 inclusive of iced tea and snacks. Kahayag Café is located M.J. Cuenco, Mabolo, Cebu City. For more information, check www.kahayagcafe.com or text/call 0920-9227507.
