Cueshe's 1st single off sophomore album premieres on MYX
July 28, 2006 | 12:00am
Expect a more mature Cueshé in their music video for their 1st single off their sophomore album, "Back to Me."
The video of the same title "Back To Me" is directed by Quark Henares, backed up by the production team of Furball.
Quark Henares is no longer new in directing Cueshé as he co-directed the band's last single, "24 Hours", from its double-platinum selling debut album, "Half Empty, Half Full."
The entire video-shoot took place at Eastwood City, Libis, Quezon City last July 17, 2006 that started as early as six in the morning until 11 in the evening. Location includes an empty mall, cinema, bar, bowling area, bookstore, among others.
"We actually had a different concept for the video, but when we heard that Eastwood City was okay for us to shoot there, we decided to change the entire concept to take advantage of the many scenic locations of the property."
"We shot at eight locations around Eastwood City with over 15 set ups, so it was both an exciting and difficult shoot," Quark revealed.
The song, written by Fritz Labrado with music by Jovan Mabini, Cueshé's bassist and guitarist respectively, is about a failed relationship you never really want to give up. It's about longing for someone who you wanted to come back because you feel he/she is the one who completes your life.
"Can you feel me, see me falling away? Did you hear me, I'm calling out your name? 'Cause I'm barely hanging on, Baby, you need to come home back to me."
True to its lyrics, the video is inspired from the movie "Lost in Translation" showing the girl all alone as if she's living in an island all by herself except in the video, the girl was strolling in an empty mall.
According to director Quark, the concept was to show how it feels like when you're heart-broken or longing for someone to come back to you. "It's like when you miss someone so badly, you feel all alone kahit nasa crowd ka. That is the metaphor for this video."
For the band's sequence, Cueshé performed in a bar turned into a living room to capture the homey feel. It shows a more relaxed performance of the band to jive well with the video.
"It's a tamer, more relaxed Cueshé you will see in this video, and the concept is not over-worked that it becomes contrived," Director Quark revealed, adding that "The band scenes were equally important and we all wanted Cueshé to show more of their musicianship and their group dynamics. I'm happy with the final product because I do think that we were able to avoid much of the posing and projecting done in Cueshé's early days and really focused on their musicianship, because they really are great with their instruments."
The video will premiere exclusively at MYX Music Channel this July 28, 2006, Friday, at 1PM. Vote for Cueshe for Favorite New Artist in a Video and Smart Hitmakers in MTV Pilipinas Music Awards 2006.
