Nothing can stop the Sexbomb

- Oliver Victor B. Amoroso -
They are now considered the most popular female group in the country. After infecting the country with the catchy hooks "laban-laban o bawi-bawi" and "Get get awww!," nothing - not even controversies and intrigues - can stop the Sexbomb from creating explosive hits set to last through the years. Whether the group is acting on TV in "Daisy Siete" or gyrating to their hit songs in "Eat Bulaga," the viewers - men and women alike - just love them. The "Sexbomb" according to Joey

Popular comedienne Joey de Leon was the one who named the group.

Joey added.

"May work ethic sila and they've managed to be both playful and ... yes, okay, sometimes they can be naughty. Yan ang nakakatuwa sa Sexbomb, hindi magugulo. Mga seryoso sila sa trabaho," says Joey. The woman behind "Sexbomb"

Sexbomb's success is also attributed to the group's manager Joy Cancio. A former dancer herself (of the defunct Vicor Dancers), Joy started with only four members, but with perseverance and continuing search for dedicated Filipino talents, she has already expanded the group to 24.

Joy is more than a manager to the group. One of group members even revealed, "Mommy talaga ang turing naming kay Miss Joy." According to them, their manager continues to patch the personality "differences" of the group and tirelessly pours them with her advice and wit.

True enough, Joy has done the insurmountable. She has kept the Sexbomb Girls in the number one spot through the years. The "Sexbomb" breadwinners

Most members of the group are breadwinners. The families they support are clearly the motivational factor that inspires them to work and to accept projects.

"Sa bahay ok lang ako yung magbayad ng lahat katulad ng kuryente at pagkain...okay po sa akin yun, kaya nga po ako nagtrabaho para sa kanila e," says member Cynthia Yapchiongko.

Controversies hounding the "Sexbomb"

Amidst countless rumors and controversies that hounded the group, its members became resilient. Be it a sex or a drug rumor, until now these rumors are not proven.

Even the group's popular member Jopay Paguia was surprised to be called an "addict" a few months ago. Like any celebrity, Jopay was saddened to hear the rumors about her. Her loss of weight and occasional leave of absence, she says, are just results of the group's numerous projects and gigs.

Contrary to rumors of the group's break-up, Sexbomb is still very much intact. When other groups "appear and disappear," the Sexbomb is still widely seen on national TV.

Their afternoon soap "Daisy Siete" is now on its eighth season. Just recently, BMG Records released the group's first retrospective album "Sumayaw Sumunod: The Best of Sexbomb Girls."
