Showtime
Our political scenario is catching much attention. It is in fact very distracting. So much so that even if I try to avoid political discussions, I find myself tethering there.
I asked a friend who is a political scientist, why we have to make our inquiries in the senate and congress aired so much so that we look like another reality show?
The sad reality is we are treating our country like a big theater where the audience seem to be watching a pingpong match. Your head turns from one court to another, one perspective to the other. The case of Alice Guo is now to the Duterte discourse.
Why? Why do we have to launder our soiled linens in public? Will this type of transparency make us revered or are we not displaying our vulnerabilities instead?
The prevailing mistrust rubs on to those among our citizenry whose nationalism has been sold to the highest bidder and whose concept of a Filipino is skewed more to the negative image that we ourselves create. We are condescending even to our own race as if we are not Filipinos.
We often catch ourselves saying “mao gyud ning pinoy” in a not so flattering manner.
We already have so many concerns as it is. Food security remains a priority along with shelter and health. Not to mention education and other productivity issues. Perhaps that is why we enjoy the palliative of the political show.
We are a beautiful country with good people. Too good and forgiving perhaps.
May God help our country.
